As one of Top Dawg Entertainment’s newest signees, Chattanooga, Tennessee rapper Isaiah Rashad was asked to recall the way he felt after signing with the California-based label, during a recent interview with Sidewalk Hustle TV.
According to Isaiah, after joining the label, he felt he had something to live up to and the chance to create his own lane as an artist.
“When I got signed to Top Dawg, I feel like I had something to live up to…I feel like I got an opportunity to open a lane for myself where that shit’s crazy,” he said.
In the time since signing with TDE, Isaiah has gone on to release his Cilvia Demo EP. While speaking with Sidewalk Hustle TV, the Southern rapper detailed the difference between his newly-released EP and his past projects. He says the primary difference between the projects stems from his growth and development as an artist.

“I think it’s more just a growth from my previous stuff,” Isaiah said. “[The only thing] I got is opportunity to put anything of mine before to the side by itself to be examined as a piece. It was just more they was just like—you could say it was just doodles…I don’t think you could really even measure it up. It’s more just like the development of it versus a comparison.”
Isaiah later rattled down a handful of words he feels describes his music. In addition to being original, he says his music is often times misconstrued.
“Three words I would [use to] describe my sound would be original,” he said. “It’d be misconstrued. I think people—I think from the reactions that people give me they kinda understand it, but they don’t get it all the way…Sometimes when half of it is feeling like getting people on the boat to like my shit and then the other half is more of seeing [if] people can figure it out. You know what I’m saying? I like to know that my listeners are on the same level as me. So, I like seeing that type of shit.”
To close out his interview, Isaiah was asked to choose between Biggie and Tupac. Rather than choose one of the late emcees, he instead opted for Jay Z as his answer.

The release of Isaiah Rashad’s interview with Sidewalk Hustle TV comes shortly after the TDE emcee expressed his desire to bring back “line-for-line music.”
“I just came to bring back, you know what I’m saying, just line-for-line music,” Isaiah said during an interview with the LesBake Radio Show this week. “Where everything kinda mean something.”
