Could it be that the Real Roxanne Shante has a little beef with Janet Jackson? According to Shante the problem is serious. Shante filed a lawsuit against Janet Jackson alleging a snippet of her voice was used on “Like You Don’t Love Me” from Janet’s latest album “Damita Jo”.
Shante alleges the clip is of her saying “so fresh” and she was never paid for it. “I figured maybe it was a sheer oversight that they didn’t pay the invoice for using my voice on the record”, Shante told Allhiphop. “ Maybe she over looked it with the breast popping out, she just got caught up in the mix. I fell back, like when they get around to it, they get around to it”. After receiving a call from a Janet rep saying they didn’t believe it was her voice, Shante filed the lawsuit. “That really infuriated me. Any true hip-hop head knows it’s me. The sample comes from ‘Def Fresh Crew’ a song that I did with Biz Markie on the Pop Art label. It usually doesn’t go this far, they rectify it. It’s the principle”. Since leaving rap Shante has started a psychology practice in New York.
