This week, Pharrell’s “Happy” remained in the #1 slot in the R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. The chart also features several other R&B and Rap artists, including Jason Derulo, 2 Chainz, Aloe Blacc, Jay Z and Beyonce. 

Pharrell “Happy” Is #1 

Pharrell Williams’ “Happy,” which has been available for 15 weeks, is the #1 song on the chart this week. Williams sold 412,736 copies of the song this week, a three percent increase from last week’s 402,265 units. Overall, Williams has sold 2,133,265 units of the cut, which appeared on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, a song that also acts as the rapper-producer-singer’s G  I  R  L album, which is available for streaming now.

Pharrell recently spoke with HipHopDX about this project. “I wanted to stick to my subject matter, which was my full spectrum version of appreciation for women—which is why I named the album G  I  R  L,” Pharrell said in the HipHopDX exclusive. “That’s capital letters with two spaces between each letter. I just wanted to focus in on that.” 

Aloe Blacc “The Man” is #4 

Aloe Blacc’s “The Man” is the #4 song this week, the fourth week since its availability. The song sold 120,353 units this week, a nine percent drop from its 132,856 units sold last week. Overall, “The Man” has sold 1,288,127 units.

Aloe Blacc, who is a rapper and a singer, has often discussed his various influences. “The earliest lyricists that I would listen to would be UTFO, KRS-One, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Nas. But then, after a little while, I started to pay attention to other styles of music and fell in love with Folk music,” Aloe Blacc said in a 2013 Interscope interview. This influence can be heard on the rapper-singer’s most recent release, Wake Me Up EP

Beyonce & Jay Z Remain At #5 With “Drunk In Love”

Beyonce and Jay Z remain in the #5 spot this week with their collaboration, “Drunk In Love.” The song, which has been available for 11 weeks, sold 93,914 copies this week, an 11 percent drop from last week’s 105,043 copies. Overall, the cut has sold 1,055,714 units.

Beyonce and Jay Z’s “Drunk In Love” is a selection off Beyonce’s self-titled album, which was released as a surprise iTunes collection on December 13, 2013. Beyonce’s “Partition” is another single that appears in the Top 15 of this week’s chart. The song, which sold 29,310 copies, experienced a 46 percent increase from last week’s 20,009 units. Overall, the song, which is at #11 this week, has sold 223,323 units.
