Questlove Says Rolling Stone Played With Drake’s Emotions

Questlove says in a series of tweets today (February 14) that Rolling Stone wasn’t fair to Drake when it changed its cover from Drake to actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who died of an apparent drug overdose February 2.

“man, @Drake is a better man than i. RS can’t be playing w/ someone’s emotions like that. anytime we given a scrap that is historical,” Questlove’s first tweet said.

The Roots’ drummer also says that cover stories are coveted by artists.

“no fair RS. do right by @Drake. why y’all acting like cover stories aren’t the stuff thats made of dreams?” Questlove wrote in another tweet.

Yesterday (February 13), Drake criticized Rolling Stone for taking him off the magazine’s cover. The publication responded by saying that it is customary to switch covers when a musician or actor dies

“They…took my cover from me last minute and ran the issue,” Drake said in a Twitter post. “I’m disgusted with that. RIP to Phillip Seymour Hoffman. All respect due. But the press is evil.”

Drake later deleted the Twitter updates above and issued a statement on his OVO Blog about why he is frustrated with Rolling Stone.

“I completely support and agree with Rolling Stone replacing me on the cover with the legendary Phillip Seymour Hoffman,” Drake said. “He is one of the most incredible actors of our time and a man that deserves to be immortalized by this publication. My frustration stemmed from the way it was executed. The circumstances at hand are completely justifiable [on the magazines behalf], but I was not able to salvage my story or my photos and that was devastating. They ran the issue without giving me a choice to be in it or not. I would have waited until it was my time because I understand the magnitude of the cover they chose, but I just wasn’t given that option and that made me feel violated.”

    1. ?uestlove is a hollywood fucker now. drake didnt deserve that cover, just because yall are buddies because he comes and plays on tonight show with yall doesnt mean whatever he had to talk about is more important than philip seymour hoffman.

      1. Questlove isn’t holloywood, being on the cover of rolling stones is something that real ‘rockstars’ have coveted for decades. If anything it is the opposite. However, it is superficial I guess..

      2. if they put a correctional officer studio gangster the cover with his tittys out, drake really deserves that shit as hes done more for rap

    2. Heres a list of all the rappers/rap groups that made the cover of Rolling Stone

      Beastie Boyz
      Black Eyed Peas
      Coolio
      D12
      De La Soul
      Diddy
      DMX
      Dr. Dre
      Eminem
      Eve
      The Fugees
      Ice-T
      Jay-Z
      Kanye West

      1. Oh I’m sorry, in that case, let me talk to them. I’ll tell them it’s killing you they’re so emotional. Maybe we can fix your faggot heart next. At least until you get butt hurt enough to start crying about it on the next Drake article.

    3. Rolling Stone shouldn’t mean shit to Drake.

This is the same magazine that has had Eminem on its cover about 13 different times and once called him the King of rap. That should tell you how they feel about HipHop culture.

….same magazine that put the Boston Bomber on their cover looking like a angelic Rock star.

Fuck em, I’d rather have 5 mics or an XXL than a cover of some Mag that 99% of Rap fans don’t even read.

    4. RS made Drake feel “violated”? Um, where can a brother sign up for that action?

By the way, RS is a respected Hiphop magazine cause it shows some real love to HipHop artist by putting Macklemore and Ricky Rosay on the cover of their magazine.

    5. It was all a dream/ I was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine/ But then a fat white actor died and stole that shit from me

    6. Life isn’t fair. get over it. Playing with someone’s emotions? lol. It isn’t that serious.

Drake or the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman… Not a hard choice.

    7. Might as well rename this website HipHopDrakeX because y’all niggas are riding that man’s nuts harder than a testicle piercing
