Sway Calloway, host of MTV’s Rap Fix and Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning, recently opened up about how Evidence played a role in helping him land his first job with MTV.

“MTV approached me a couple of times,” Sway says in an interview with Evidence and Alchemist, who are readying their Step Brothers album release. “I kept saying no because, dog, I wasn’t down with corporations. I was keeping it real, trying to. Then a bunch of bills started stacking up and something else happened. It changed my mind real quick.”

MTV asked Sway to film an audition tape, he says. Sway originally declined, before asking MTV to meet him at Fat Beats, an iconic record store in Los Angeles which has since closed down. Sway says he went into the taping without a script, hoping to speak about the week in music without any rehearsal. While there, he says Evidence walked into the record shop without knowing the taping was taking place.

“I was like, ‘This is some MTV thing. Why don’t you get in the shot?'” Sway says. “He got me the job.”

Evidence, who also appears in the interview, concurs.

“The whole pilot was about me, basically,” Evidence says. “And that got him the job.”

During the interview, which can be viewed below, Evidence and Sway also speak about the host’s recent argument with Kanye West

Evidence and Alchemist are prepping the release of Lord Steppington, their debut album as Step Brothers. The project, slated to be released via Rhymesayers Entertainment, is scheduled to drop January 21.
