Rick Ross’s “Mastermind” Album Being Mixed By Diddy

Rick Ross said on Twitter yesterday (January 9) that his album is being mixed by Diddy. “Sitting at the SSL board #Mastermind on repeat.. album mixed by Sean Diddy Combs,” the MMG boss tweeted last night.

The Miami rapper’s album was supposed to be released December 17. Last month, though, it was announced that the album’s release was being pushed back until 2014.

It’s coming soon,” he said. “Top of the year. Still gotta put a few details into it. I got to. Everybody’ll thank me later.”

In December, Rick Ross released “The Devil Is A Lie” single with Jay Z, which is slated to appear on his Mastermind album. “Me and Jay Z in the studio, it’s not just the beat on loop,” he said of the song. “We talkin’ some shit. We talkin’ some shit, nigga.”

Ross compared the track to “FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt,” his collaboration with Jay Z from Hov’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. “After you make a record as big as “YouKnowIGotIt,” it has to be on that level, and I feel that’s what this record is,” he said. “It’s a dope record.”

Rick Ross referred to the “stats” behind his and Jay Z’s collaborations, which include “Free Mason,” “Hustlin’ (Remix)” and “3 Kings.” “‘Devil is a Lie,’… it’s another one of them records,” he said. “[Jay Z and I are] 6-0, 7-0 on the joints. It’s for the streets. It’s the flows, it’s the bounce, it’s how current and relevant the music is. I think that’s what’s important when you’re sculpting an entire body of work.”

In an October interview, the Miami, Florida native talked about his latest project and said that fans will hear the culmination of Ross’ experiences over the last year.

“In the past year I done seen some things, I done been through some things, so you’re going to feel that passion and that aggression,” Ross said at the time. “I think the streets are really going to love this.”

    1. Why?? Just Why?

Diddy don’t know how to use SSL! He just gonna slap his name on another nigga’s work like always.

He should have got Dr. Dre to mix the shit.

    2. He gonna have to drop that Drake single real soon if he wants a release date. Future and Jay-z weren’t enough to make him hot again but Drake and Weezy might have what it takes!

      1. Sorry to bust your bubble but Future aint selling no units and Weezy didnt go platinum and JayZ only sells to old white men who want to be hip so why go to them?

    3. my friend’s sister-in-law makes $80/hr on the computer. She has been out of a job for 8 months but last month her check was $13481 just working on the computer for a few hours.

    4. Serious question!! Whens the last time Diddy made a hot record? He just clings to whoever is popular and rides their wave!

    5. We all know what “mixed by Diddy” means, it means 20 Ghost mixers with Diddys name on it, he should have gone to Dre and Bernie Grundman for mixing and mastering.

Diddy had the Midas Touch when he had the Hitmen & Stevie J but he aint got that stand out to me on the audio end I like what my guy Timbo does on the boards and Drakes guy Gadget Capmbell does incredible work.

Me just wants the damn album already I done worn this MNIMN down to the bone grizzle, Gotti too.

      $$$$

      1. No need to call me racial epithets and use me for your lurid homosexual fantasies Im sure that
Joe Budden is much more your type.

        —-

My intentions with the previous comment wasnt to disparage Diddy as a producer/mixer I just think there are more skilled professionals in the arena of mixing/mastering but I reiterate that there will most likely be a team of Ghost-mixers receiving a contractual flat fee w/ non disclosure agreement for their work 😉 one of my nitpickish peeves is the uneven sound of Mixtapes and a few albums that have uneven mixing and you can hear the difference in quality mixing vs subpar mixing.

        2s

    6. this is a perfect fit. A fraud like diddy who relies on ghost producers and rappers to make all his hits working with another fraud rapper

      1. Dr Dre does the same thing which is why they are two of the most successful producers in the history of HipHop.

      1. “He makes plenty of moves without those two vultures.”

Not in the music indutry. We’re not talkin bout his lil chicken shacks and overprice liquor no one buys.

      2. (Roc Nation, Bad Boy, MMG)

Ross has 6 themed WingStop franchises, Belaire Rose champagne, Maybach Films, Maybach Latino and his own empire.

Diddy, Jay and Birdman are all friends and business partners its only natural that they make moves together because thats what hustlers do.

Why are you angry that JayZ & Rozay are both handling the careers of Meek Mill and Wale together?
Why are you angry that Diddy and Rozay are both handling the career of French Montana together?

Diddy has Ciroc JayZ has Ace of Spades and Ross has Belaire
Diddy has Los JayZ has Jay Electronica and Ross has Stalley

Isnt it inspirational watching young Black entrapanuerers navigate the corporate world with each other hustling together and enjoying the fruits of their labor and mentoring other young hustlers
on the business? We love it, its brotherhood and business for Black folks.

      3. “young Black entrapanuerers”

The average age of a millionaire in the US is 62, their are 35,000 Black millionairs in the US which is one tenth of one percent of the population.

Yes 40 is young to be a millionaire executive, the average age of an executive is 55 years old (Lyor Cohen is 55 and Jimmy Iovine is 60)

So yes, when we talk about these executives we use terminology like “young” and “black” to emphasis their youth and ethnicity in an arena dominated by old white men.

        Hallelujah

      4. “why you pocket watchin over niggas tho

they dont share it with your bum ass”

You whites dont understand, it isnt about watching a mans pockets, its about recognizing Black entrepanurelship and Black economic empowerment. Im appreciating the franchising, branding, marketing and investing that I see from my brothers, I could care less about the money in Diddys bank account, Im more impressed with him launching Revolt and buying DeLeon Tequila.

Our object is to continue to rise untill you fall.

      5. “for every 1 negro that rises 250 fall down”

        This is a falsehood.

JayZ put Ross on Ross put Wale on and Wale put Black Cobain on and on and on.

This is brotherhood, family and community its deeper than rap:

The overall objective is to make as many financially secure Black and Brown people as possible so that we can provide careers and job opportunities for our brothers and sisters in our communities.

We want to put ourselves in positions to where we dont have to beg whites for jobs and and be modern day slaves on a low wage plantation.

The days are gone when rappers expended their energy trying to destroy each others careers now its all about building careers.

      6. but how many young people got themselves locked up trying to sell dope off their iphones so they could pop bottles and drive maybachs with big chains on like jay-z and rick ross???

      7. It’s difficult being a Ross hater because on one hand you want to say that he doesent sell any records and the few that he does sell are in lily white suburbs, but then you want to say that his music influences impressionable young people to sell drugs so they can live like rap stars…what a dilemma

How many young people decided to stay out of jail and focus on a career in music so they could pop bottles with Ross and JayZ drive Maybachs? I can name two of them: Fat Trel and J Cole.

I know the Rush Limbaughs of the world want to blame rap music for everything because after all Eminems murderous lyrics has influenced thousands of young people to rape and murder their own mothers.

    7. This shit is finnin to be a classic. Rozay already got 3 classics in his catalog adding another one to the collection. Y’all niggas wish your favorite rappers were this prolific. And diddy though he aint no good rapper has a good ear for beats so I aint mad at him.

      Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Laughin at this nigga followin everything I’m saying. Hey bitch made fag use something new. Just cuz you read what all these other niggas write on here don’t mean shit. Like it or not lotta cats in ATL ride to Ross music. just cuz you feminism white boys love ridin his dick don’t be throwin it at me. I listen to Ross cuz the music don’t give a fuck what the nigga did in the past unlike bitch made niggas on this site.

        Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      2. Sorry but no black person would ever type this…

“This shit is finnin to be a classic”

A true negro would have said..

“This shit finna be a classic

      3. This white boy Ross groupie goes on every 50 cent and young jeezy article biggin up his correctional officer idol!

      4. Funny how these niggas who wanna talk shit about Ross aint never willin to put they names behind they statements. At least I put my name on my statements and niggas on here know where I stand. Y’all the same bitches who dickride 5.0 and Feminem. Its funny y’all niggas come on here and love talkin shit bout Rozays past life and yet don’t realize they idols 5.0 snitch and Feminem poppin pills and makin racist statements but y’all niggas on here never bring that shit up. Don’t give a fuck what y’all bitch niggas say its about the music for me while y’all fags here are so worried about what jobs these rappers had 10 fuckin years up. y’all 12 year old suburb niggas need to grow the fuck up and stop bein tmz and shit.

        Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      5. “Funny how these niggas who wanna talk shit about Ross aint never willin to put they names behind they statements. At least I put my name on my statements and niggas on here know where I stand.”

You stole the name of a nigga that stole his name

    8. No games – Trash
Devil is a lie – No buzz despite getting jay on the record

This nigga won’t do more than 150k first week

      1. People like the record, it’s not Hip-Pop Homo-Hop or Hippie-Hop its just a HipHop song that people have in their IPods and play in their cars. No fancy video or radio premier just a song for the fans and the haters.

      2. hell you talking about that’s my shit. I bump devil is a lie like 10 times a day. and ive been hearing it a lot lately. the fuck u been

    9. Hahaha, I love Rick Ross but does he not realize that Diddy has NO CLUE on how to work a console/mixing board? He better hope – pray – that Diddy is bring The Hitmen with him…

      1. LOL yea..your right as many years Diddy has in the music business im “sure” he doesnt know the controls or how to mix

OHHHHH man you are so naive….google that if you dont understand

    10. Rozay is one of the most important artists of this era, he showed you dont have to sell a million records to make a million dollars and he built MMG from the ground up by himself and without a flagship artist.

      1. Most of the executive moguls have been built around a producer, or a platinum artist or a dynamic duo. An example of dynamic duos would be Jay & Dame or Baby and Slim.
An example of a producer would be Death Row or Bad Boy
An example of a platinum artist would be Grand Hustle or CTE.

I cant really think of a mogul post 2006 that has their own label with Gold selling artists that isnt platinum, a producer or on a team but I like what Wiz Khalifah and Ross have done on this side and what Tech N9ne has done on the Indie side.

      2. rappers who made more than ross last year i dont see anyone callin half these people moguls

wiz khalifa, tech n9ne, kendrick lamar, pitbull, macklemore, 50 cent, snoop dogg, ludacris, drake, nicki, lil wayne, eminem,

      3. The troll-whites have no clue what a Mogul is or what being an executive entails they simply look at a Forbes list and who made the most money within that year and crown them.

(One of the desperate ones longing for specific attention to chat started screaming the word “BruthaDee” in hopes that his cries may elicit a response so he/she can feel some sense of acknowledgement in a cruel world that has ignored them outside of Internet communication)

A perfect example of the ignorance of the Troll-whites is the list of names they dropped, Young Joc made the list one year is he a mogul? Nicki is signed to a rapper that’s signed to another rapper is she a mogul?

So we have to put things into perspective and ask ourselves how many of the names on that list are Platinum selling artists, how many are actual executives that release their music on their own imprint with the major solely as distributer, how many are signed to another artist, how many have made the list 5 or more times…..

Ludacris doesnt get enough credit as a mogul but his DTP catalog speaks for itself with 10 album certifications along with his Hollywood money and his Cognac, people forget how huge that Pepsi deal was….

    11. JayZ had Dame Dash as a partner

50 Cent had Sha Money XL

Poor Diddy didnt have anyone but he had Biggie as an artist so that put him in positian.

      1. Birdman has Slim and Master P had both his brothers.
Lidacris had Chaka Zulu, Jeezy had Kinky B.

Diddy only had himself and a prayer.

    12. “Not in the music indutry”

He’s not even signed to Diddy, and Jay collaborates with him because he wants to. The only people Ross answers to are the label, and whoever still has a stake in his album profits.

      1. Diddy and JayZ collab with that fat bastard because he is fat Black and ugly like their dead homie Biggie and the fat bastard Ross has a flair for fashion like the Notorious Piggy.

    13. Hmm…interesting. Not surprised tho…diddy has been a producer on several albums by now. I’m sure he’ll add his infamous “bad boy” imprint on Ross’s new LP somehow…lol

    14. Great choice to get Diddy & the Hitmen, they helped make American Gangster one of JayZs better albums and showed Diddy still has skills as a producer.

    15. “Rozay is one of the most important artists of this era, he showed you dont have to sell a million records to make a million dollars and he built MMG from the ground up by himself and without a flagship artist.”

I agree but the average person is not Hip to what goes on behind the scenes; when it comes to guerilla marketing, virals, product placement, merchandise and that grass roots movement but of you do then you cant help but marvel at how they move. Credit due to Gucci Pucci, Spiff, Savv, Lex and Shari who keep things working behind the scenes.

Now that Spiff has taken over duties from Apex at Maybach Latino you can expect to see big things coming from that camp, one of the most underrated A&Rs in the game.

      1. i bet this nigga knows the name of ross cleaning lady too lol

give her some credit rozay is a disgusting slob imagine doin his laundry

      2. Dope post, most of these posts on here are just little kids that talk about poop, dicks, Stans or butts being hurt. I remember Shari Bryant from the Roc A Fella days and Savv & Gaby kept Def Jam bubbling during the lean days but yeah the game is leaning more towards autonomous entities working under umbrellas without the label holding your hand. Its the Indie ethic with the major feel but not like in the past when the labels did the bulk of the groundwork.

      3. I just think they too deep:

        Ross
        Wale
        Meek Mill
        Gunplay
        Omarion
        Stalley
        Rockie Fresh
        Fat Trel
        Torch
        Young Breed
        Tracy T
        DJ Scream

        Ducepound Quise
        Maybach Dice
        Scotty Boi
        Kano
        Money Murch

      4. Is Masspike Miles still on MMG, I know him and Gunplay on a mini tour but I heard Miles left because of Omarion.

      5. “This guy can’t be serious”

He seems knowledgable not just an attention seeker, Miami has a huge Latin population and artists like Pit Bull have put Miami on the map for us Latino artists so yes that guy is serious.

      1. does anyone know of a hip-hop website where 40 year old man like me can go and discuss black power and maybach music group without these freakish white skinned geeks and g-unit wiggers?

        let me know @BruthaDee

    16. “dx catering to a bunch of 12 year old whiteboys”

Yep nothing but 50 & Em’ but thats where the web traffic is at.

    17. “I just think they too deep:

      Ross
      Wale
      Meek Mill
      Gunplay
      Omarion
      Stalley
      Rockie Fresh
      Fat Trel
      Torch
      Young Breed
      Tracy T
      DJ Scream
      DJ Hollywood Bay Bay
      Beat Billionaire
      AoneBeats
      DJ Sam Sneaker
      Duce Poppi
      Young Dudus
      Ducepound Quise
      Maybach Dice
      Scotty Boi
      Kano
      Money Murch”

No wonder Ross is going broke and filing frivolous lawsuits against pop stars. he got a team of bums that will never make it too feed. at least tony yayo sold some records in his day. wont be able to say the same about most of those cats

      1. White boy thinks a millionaire is going broke because he got a list of Black folks eating at the table with him.

      2. They hate to see us united and together, they like the 50Cent formula where Black people beef with each other, year each other down and try to destroy each others careers, they love niggas that do the white mans dirty work and hate Black men that promote unity.

    18. It’s over for Ross. Complex released a list of the most anticipated albums of 2014 and that nigga Rozay was like #13 behind artists such as Chance the Rapper, Schoolboy Q, Kendrick, Mac Miller, Pusha T, Nas, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Pharell, Kanye, Frank Ocean….

      1. Nas? lol Complex just revelaed themselves to know absolutely nothing about hip hop. Nice try, but real hip hop heads will be listening when Mastermind drops.

      2. whats wrong with nas?

i would def say the heads are anticipating his next project more than mastermind, which has hasnt really impressed anyone yet
