Bruno Mars and Rihanna were recently named the two most-pirated artists of the past year, according to rollingstone.com

The two stars, Mars and Rihanna, were reportedly illegally downloaded more than five million times each, as per rollingstone.com, which used Musicmetric to analyze BitTorrent data. 

Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, Flo Rida, Kanye West, Eminem, Jay Z, Drake and Pitbull were also named in the report.

Musicmetric executive, Gregory Mead, spoke about the company’s data. 

“Back in the day, people went into record shops to try records before they bought them,” Mead said. “Nowadays, they download or stream a track and then perhaps buy a download or a gig ticket.”

In 2012, Drake’s “The Motto” was the most-pirated song of the year, as per Spin, as reported by HipHopDX. According to that report, The Jay Z and Kanye West collaborative album, Watch the Throne, was the most downloaded album in the United States with more than 70,000 illegal downloads.

According to Musicmetric this year, Beyonce’s self-titled album was pirated approximately 240,000 times in its first 10 days of availability.
