Stat Quo says Chance The Rapper was his favorite emerging artist of 2013.

“He reminds me of Kendrick [Lamar] because of his storytelling, his flow,” Stat Quo says during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX. “I don’t think he’s as good as Kendrick. He just reminds of Kendrick when Kendrick was starting out. I think he’s on the path to go there. I like the way he put together his mixtape.”

Chance The Rapper‘s Acid Rap mixtape was named among The Most Important Mixtapes Of 2013 by HipHopDX.

“I just love how personal it is,” says Stat Quo, who is working on completing his own ATLA project, an acronym for “All This Life Allows.” “I love that when I listen to it, it’s so stripped down and basic. It sounds like when he recorded, he didn’t expect to be anything, but it was so dope.

“It reminds me of how I would do my mixtapes,” he continues. “It shows how Hip Hop always goes back to where it started, back to the essence.”
