So much for riding off into the sunset huh? Since his supposed retirement last November Jay-Z has been in the spotlight as much as ever. From the rumors of his return to hip-hop as Shawn Carter, his album with Dr. Dre and his leaving Roc-A-Fella, it just has not ended.
That doesn’t appear to be changing either. According to New York Post gossip columnist Tim Arango, Def Jam is after Jay-Z to replace recently resigned Kevin Liles as the label’s president. Arango claims the reason behind it is to prevent Jay from leaving the Roc and Def Jam to join Lyor Cohen at Warner (the other persisting rumor).
Jay apparently turned down this offer in favor of pursuing his own Shawn Carter Records. A spokesman for Antonio Reid denied the rumor altogether, saying, “It’s absolutely not true.”
