Spike Lee’s latest centers around a man who impregnates lesbians, and Q Tip plays his friend — with a low sperm count.

“This was a big deal for me,” beams Q-Tip, a self-proclaimed cinefile, to a group of critics at The Regency Hotel in New York. “Spike is a great director and filmmaker. This was a prestigious gig. A pleasure.”

“She Hate Me” chronicles the life of a high-powered, successful businessman, who when found in a tight situation at work, is persuaded to have intercourse with lesbians while they’re ovulating, thus impregnating them at $10,000 a piece. His ex-fiancé, whom he nicknames She Hate Me, becomes his agent and transforms him into a controversial baby-maker. On the flip side, his good friend Veda Huff, played by Q-Tip can’t even donate to a sperm bank because his count is too low and too slow.

3. He has studied acting for 11 years.

4. He isn’t worried about his reputation after playing this role because it’s just a movie. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.

5. He’s not worried about the rappers-taking-actors’-role debate because he feels like his responsibility is to the work, and the craft, whether acting, writing or music. And just being honest and truthful in that.
