After a week dominated by Eminem’sRap God” buzz and the hype surrounding BET Awards Show cyphers, this week’s Top 10 most popular singles represent a mix of official singles, one-off tracks and remixes, as well as collaborations. Childish Gambino claims the top spot and much of the media’s attention with the rollout of the first single from his second album, because the internet, alongside a string of recent interviews. Kanye West is back on the list sans music with his detailed marriage proposal to girlfriend Kim Kardashian caught on tape. Eminem’s “Rap God” single has enough legs to stay in the Top 3 a second week running and ahead of the increasingly anticipated scheduled release of his Marshall Mathers LP 2 next month. The list is rounded out by a Rick Ross remix of New Zealand singer Lorde’s hit “Royals” and a DJ Paul-produced Yelawolf number, as well as new music from TDE via Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, and Pusha T linking up with rap/rock group Linkin Park

Childish Gambino Releases “3005” Single

After a short hiatus from releasing music, Childish Gambino, also commonly known as an actor under his given name, Donald Glover, released the first single from his sophomore album earlier this week. The track, which features synthy production fitting the title and Glover’s own sung hook, leads up to Gambino’s official sophomore release, tentatively titled because the internet. On the song, he raps about his friends, insecurities, partying, and his commitment to the song’s muse. “We spend it with no shame,” he raps, “We blow that like Coltrane / We in here like Rogaine / Or leave it like Cobain / And when I’m long gone, whole crew sing a swan song / ‘Cause we all just ticking time bombs, got a Lambo like Lebron’s mom.”

The artist has recently talked about the album in interviews, noting that despite his label’s disagreement, it will be released in December. He has also recently claimed his dissatisfaction with being labeled a rapper on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club and revisited a disagreement with fellow Chicago artist Lupe Fiasco on Twitter.

Childish Gambino also released another song entitled “Worldstar” this week. The song seems to act as a critical satire of the Hip Hop and video site it’s named after. It’s unclear whether “Worldstar” will appear on Gambino’s upcoming album.

Kanye West’s Proposal To Kim Kardashian Gets Caught On Tape

Despite the pair’s consistent attempts at shunning public recordings, Kanye West’s elaborate marriage proposal to girlfriend Kim Kardashian was caught on tape earlier this week on Monday (October 21). The proposal was buttressed by a large orchestra and an intricately planned setup in which West got down on one knee at a mostly private AT&T field in San Francisco, California. After proposing, the couple was met by a group of close friends who were hiding in the dugout on the field.

Kanye and Kim gave birth to their daughter North West earlier this year on June 15. Per TMZ, Kim received a 15-carat diamond ring signaling their engagement. Video of the proposal can be seen below.

Rick Ross Retouches Lorde’s “Royals”

After already climbing to the top of Billboard’s charts and selling nearly 3 million downloads, New Zealand native Lorde’s smash hit “Royals” got the Rick Ross treatment. The original song, which has also recently shifted into the R&B and Hip Hop Airplay charts this week at 46, has maintained its top spot for a full month running.

Ross’s remix finds the rapper waxing on a woman and luxury, rapping, “she wanna watch “Scandal” / I wanna count a handful” and “Mastermind unfolds like a true crime / Double ‘M’ goldmine for the whole time.” The remix serves as an unofficial lead up to Ross’ planned release of his sixth studio album, Mastermind, tentatively scheduled for a December 17 release date.

Yelawolf Lets Loose The DJ Paul-Produced “Light Switch” From Their Upcoming Mixtape

After announcing their Heavy Metal-inspired collaborative Black Fall mixtape in July, Yelawolf and DJ Paul are finally set to release the project next week. Black Fall will be built purposefully and almost exclusively out of Heavy Metal and Hard Rock samples per Yelawolf’s initial announcement three months ago. The first single, “Light Switch,” seems to follow that formula with a notable sample of the popular Muse track “Uprising.” “Light Switch” also falls in line with Yelawolf’s aggressive, rapid-fire delivery and DJ Paul’s signature production touch. “Grease under my white nails,” he raps. “Hard truth to this false world / Learned quick to fight well / Give thanks to the microwave / I’m a chef when I’m home alone.”
