Ja Rule, who was recently released from prison, says he feels his focus is shifting from music to movies and television.
“I love music,” Ja Rule said in a recent interview with USA Today. “It’s my passion. This is my second wind right now and I’m happy to be home, but I think as I’m getting older, my passion is leaning toward doing more television and film. Music is my heart, but I see television and more movies in the next stage of my life.”
Rule is focusing on the upcoming release of I’m in Love with a Church Girl, a film set to debut in over 500 theaters across the country on October 18. The film stars Ja Rule and actress Adrienne Bailon, who earned notoriety for her work with Cheetah Girls and 3LW.
During his interview, Ja Rule also spoke about his role in the film.

“This role was very different for me,” Ja Rule said. ”I’ve done a lot of films that all have been pretty edgy. I played thug characters, but with this character, even though I play a thug somewhat, he’s really a guy going through a transition.”
Before his role in I’m in Love with a Church Girl, Ja Rule worked in various films, including 2001’s The Fast & The Furious and 2003’s Scary Movie 3.

During his recent interview, Ja Rule also spoke about his mentality while he was in prison.
“It’s really minimum — all of the fame, the movies and the music,” Ja Rule told USA Today. “When you’re behind that wall, all that becomes very minimum…I was more focused on getting my mind right, getting my body right, more thinking about my family. Those are the things you cherish.”
Recently, Irv Gotti announced that he is hoping to work with Ja Rule on a reality program soon. The program is set to focus on Rule and his family.
