According to a recently published NY Post article, the son of Jay Z’s former business partner and Roc-A-Fella co-founder Damon Dash has been arrested and charged for misdemeanor assault and strangulation after purportedly choking his girlfriend in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, NY.

The NY Post article credits an anonymous law enforcement source with knowledge of the case for the information. “They had an apparent dispute over sex,” the source said. “She was visiting him…he got violent with her, [started] to punch her, slap her and shove her onto the bed. [He] got on top of her, he grabs her by the throat and [choked] her.” After an apparent break in the altercation, the two continued their dispute and the younger Dash “placed both of [his] hands around [her] neck and squeezed tightly” per the misdemeanor charge filed against him. It was at this point that Dash’s girlfriend alerted the police department of the situation.

Three days later, on September 25, Dash was arraigned and agreed to an order of protection that serves to legally bar his contacting the alleged victim. He was released without bail while the legal process is ongoing.

Beyond the strangulation, the Post’s cited source also made a more general note of the aftermath of Dash’s violence. “She suffered bruises, a black eye and a cut lip,” he said. The complaint references physical evidence, namely “red marks” on “her neck,” as proof of the attack.

The Post also reports that this is the second arrest for Dash Jr. though the date and nature of the first arrest is unclear. Damon Dash Jr. is a deejay, music producer and entrepreneur based in New York City. Besides performing as a deejay, he is the co-founder of a boutique bakery line called Chipz Cookies which sells its products in New York’s Zabar’s and Fairway supermarkets.

Damon Dash Jr.’s father has also been accused various times of physical and sexual assault including a 2003 lawsuit that sought $15 million in damages after an alleged incident with a woman named Kirstie Thompson. Just one year later another woman filed a lawsuit for $30,000 in damages after Dash allegedly made numerous sexual advances towards her in a Miami nightclub.

Now nearly a decade removed from the infamous split from Jay Z, Dame Dash has also been in the spotlight in recent months for a series of court dates and news that he is seriously behind on his rent. Earlier this year it was publicized that Dash fell victim to a number of property seizures due to nonpayment. According to a public court filing he may owe more than $2 million in state taxes as well as an undetermined amount owed to the federal government. In May, Dash was specific about his financial troubles in a document he filed to the court, claiming he was “currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which [he lives] and at risk of being evicted.”

Earlier this summer, Dame Dash was pictured alongside Jay Z for the first time in years leading many to speculate that the two have reconciled their personal and business differences.
