Drake Explains Removal From Aaliyah’s Posthumous Project

During the third installment of his CRWN interviews presented by MySpace, Drake spoke about his perspective regarding Twitter.

“Twitter isn’t real, by the way,” Drake said. “There’s no gauge on real life on twitter. That’s a terrible medium to exist in. You can enjoy it. You can even indulge in it. Just don’t live your life by that weird code on that Internet program.

“I know it’s tough,” Drake continued. “I know we all love it, but I’m just gonna give you an example. When it stopped being real to me was on my mom’s birthday. I’ll never forget. It was all these people being like, ‘Happy birthday to your mom.’ And then, I saw some guy be like, ‘Yo, I hope your mom dies in a car crash tonight.’ I was just like, ‘Why am I reading this? What is going on? Who is this guy?’ Obviously, I just went to his page because I was just like, ‘Fuck him.’ Obviously, he just had a Tyler, the Creator sweater on. He was just 13 years old, just jerking off to Grand Theft Auto and shit. I just encourage you to live your life and be great.”

Drake Explains Why His Aaliyah Project Has Been Scrapped

In 2012, it was reported that Drake would be an executive producer on an upcoming Aaliyah project. Timbaland and others criticized Drake’s involvement with the project. “A lot of these rappers out here are awful,” Timbaland said in July. “Chris Brown got a record [with Aaliyah]. It won’t work. Drake could do a record with Aaliyah. It ain’t going to work.”

In his CRWN interview, Drake also commented on the now-scrapped Aaliyah project he was working on.

“Before things went downhill with it, I was actually working with my dream collaboration,” Drake said of his work on an Aaliyah posthumous album. “Me and 40 were working on this Aaliyah album that kind of got blown out of proportion. There are records with me and Aaliyah that no one has ever heard and they’re really good.”

Drake addressed why he felt the plans for the album were scrapped.

“I think the press got out of hand,” Drake said. “They maybe just had a different vision for it. I’m not sure. It was sounding great to me. Whatever they end up doing with it, I wish them the best of luck. There might be a record with me on there. I’m not sure.”

Drake Talks About Musical Influences For Nothing Was The Same

During the CRWN interview, Drake was also asked about the music that he listened to while recording Nothing was the Same.

“I was more listening to music that nobody was listening to,” Drake said. “One of the most important connections and relationships in my life is my manager and one of my best friends. His name is Oliver. He’s always silently dictated a lot of the decisions that I’ve made. He does a lot. But, when it comes to the music, he provides me with the inspiration that I need to keep pushing forward…He’s such an incredible mind and an incredible ear. He gives me music that no one else listens to. That music combined with the extremely hood shit that I listen to, like Lil Herb and all these [rappers]. I balance it all out. That just comes from me spending summers in Memphis, Tennessee and listening to old Yo Gotti albums and Three 6 [Mafia albums]…I was really more inspired by 40, Detail and Oliver’s selections, more so than any other artists. I wouldn’t say I was inspired by anybody else’s music as opposed to just the people around me for this album.”

    1. that fcking homo should shut up
messing with aaliyahs music is the worst thing that guy could do.

her music should be released with timbo as producer.
drake doesnt have the music knowledge for that.

    2. Gucci Mane = realest rapper ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      – T.I. snitch to the feds
      – Young Jeezy was never bmf
      – 50 Cent snitch and was never in jail but a youthcamp
      – Game was never a banger but lived the life of his brother in his lyrics
      – Nas Escobar never sold drugs
      – Ice Cube never was a gangbanger
      – Dr Dre never was a gangbanger
      – 2pac was a ballerina and never sold drugs after he become famous he was doing some stupid stuff like beating and shooting at people because he though he could get away with it. Without Suge Knight 2pac was just a skinny motherfucker. Oh and i like his music so fuck you.
      – Mobb deep are the biggiest pussies in rap they are short as midgets and keep talking this g shit but never did g shit.

      1. Obviously someone needs attention, the person that wrote that list about all those rappers sucks dicks for a living hahahaha!

    3. The reason why the project was cancelled is because timbaland put a gun to wayne’s head and made drake drop the project.

    4. Best Quote Of The Year! –He’s right, people hide behind a keyboard and say reckless nonsensical stuff because their life is suicidal… I encourage you to take several seats and do something to fulfill your purpose.

      1. His name is Oliver. He’s always silently dictated a lot of the decisions that I’ve made.

Thats the best quote drake ever said. Admitting hes basically fake and other people make his decisions for him. KEEP WORSHIPING HOES YOU QUEER

    5. I truly don’t know why this guy has so much publicity and gets so many articles I mean his music is mediocre, to me it seems he’s just linked with powerful industry people who bought a career for him… This is not hip-hop and I bet you he even knows it but I guess its all about the paper…

    6. Oh thank goodness, I was worried we would miss the next thing Drake said, thank you DX for keeping us up on all things Drake.

    7. Breaking News Drake just farted, I repeat Drake has just farted, stay tuned to HHDX for what happens in Drakes life next.

    8. drake fans are total idiots.
      worst rapper ever.

glad that he got trashed for “producing” aaliyahs tracks.
      hes a total failure

      1. Riff Raff, Chief Keef, Gucci etc.? There are rappers way worse than Drake.

If anything Drake is one of the few bright spots in mainstream music.

    9. I don’t understand why people comment just to talk shit about the artist the article is about. You’re not changing anyone’s opinion and you’re devoting part of your life just to talk shit about whoever it is. Don’t read the article, don’t comment, and focus on artists you are actually interested in.

    10. His name is Oliver. He’s always silently dictated a lot of the decisions that I’ve made.

So you havent made those decisions then have you? Oliver has? You just confirmed everyones main criticism. Youre a fake ass commericial ho, doing what people around you tell you to.

      1. I hit him up on twitter, we met & had a good time, we held hands & watched shooting stars, he kissed me gently. We didn’t go full penetration just jerked each other off, I can’t wait to see him again.

    11. WAYNE HAS:

      – amazing wordplay
      – dope storyteller
      – charisma
      – humor
      – could do meanstream and underground
      – had more flows then a pimp has hoes
      – had substance he raped on a different way about money, hoes and clothes then those mcs now

    12. Drake is where he’s at for a reason you get a lot of hate when you’re in his position. Especially w/Hip Hop listeners. I feel his project w/Aaliyah would have had a fresh sound w/o compromising Aaliyah’s sound that made her great. I wish Timbaland would have just got in w/those young brothers & helped them create some heat so we could’ve sooner got good music & they could’ve got that paper. Now that Chris & Drake are cool hopefully something good will come. Drake has 3 top selling records & all of his features sell. He no longer needs approval. His track record speaks for itself.

      1. His track record is bought by powerful people who owns the media and who shove you that mediocre lame music all day in your face via radio or tv… get real.

      2. The thing is, Drake did not consult Timbaland, nor Missy and DMX, Aaliyah’s musical inner circle. Since he just went ahead and started producing it, how could Timbaland support a project he wasnt consulted on?

    13. As much as i criticize drake, its mostly his music. i wouldn’t go as far as wishing his mom would die, not even on some troll shit. thats just foul and extremely childish in the worst way possible (not to mention, thats him being an actual hater). With that said,i won’t say drake is being sensitive but drake shouldn’t take shit like that to heart. It’s the fucking internet, and he knows its some nobody snot nose teenager, so why would he take what that punk ass e-thug said seriously?? It’s not like that mothefucker went up to your face and said it in person. Don’t get upset about it, diss that motherfucker back and im sure the army of drake fans will come troll his ass. Just saying drake, don’t take negative tweets so personal, most celebrities and entertainers receive the same kind of bullshit all the time. Olivia Wilde got fucked up shit said about her and she have thicker skin than u. Man up nigga.

    14. He must be quite stupid… The reason why people didn’t like the leaked songs is that we all want an Aaliyah album not a Drake / Aaliyah mashup. Is that so hard to understand? No one wants stupid duets and him messing with Aaliyah’s work with no respect. If he’d done it with respect and kept it more laid back without the swearing and all the rapping and the overproduction, no one would have complained…

    15. big criminal very crazy drake. you are a very fake person stay away in my whole life. there is no place in my whole life for you big criminal very crazy drake and your surporters to use me and make money in the world. may my God Jesus Christ destrony you big criminal very crazy drake and your surporters with everlasting destrony destructions. you belong to the jail big criminal very crazy drake and you should sleep in the jail.
