When Drake’s “The Language” was released, some speculated that the Toronto rapper was speaking about Kendrick Lamar.
“I don’t know why they been lyin’,” Drake rhymes on the selection featured on Nothing was the Same. “But your shit is not that inspirin’ / Bank account statements just look like I’m ready for early retirement / Fuck any nigga that’s talkin’ that shit just to get a reaction / Fuck going platinum / I looked at my wrist and it’s already platinum / I am the kid with the motor mouth / I am the one you should worry about / I don’t know who you’re referring to, who is this nigga you heard about? / Someone just talking that bullshit, man, someone just gave you the run-around / Niggas downplaying the money, but that’s what you do when the money down.”
While some speculated that the song was a shot at Kendrick Lamar for his oft-discussed verse on Big Sean’s “Control,” Birdman says Drake was not dissing Lamar on the track.
“Drake do what he do,” Birdman, who appears on the song, said in an interview with MTV. “He really slick with whatever he do. He makes you think. But I didn’t think he put no energy into that.”

Birdman Explains TDE Connection
Birdman went on to talk about his connection to Kendrick Lamar and Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith.
“Kendrick the homey,” Birdman said. “I ain’t got nothin’ but love and respect for Kendrick. Top Dawg is one of my best friends, so I would never want to see us condone that…That ain’t what this about…I don’t think he went that route, to me.”
Birdman added that he hopes to not see a feud between Drake and Lamar.

“That’s Hip Hop too, but I don’t think we need to do that, because then you have to focus on that individual and we do this for the people,” Birdman said. “I would never want to see that from none of my team or my teammates.”

“It just wasn’t real to me,” Drake told New York radio station Hot 97 recently, as per MTV. “I saw him after that and it was just like love, so it’s like was that real or was that for the people? Those were harsh words. You can’t just say that and see me like, ‘Yeah, man, what’s up,’ pretending like nothing ever happened. That’s not real.”
Drake has also said he lost respect for the sentiments of Kendrick Lamar’s verse.
“He didn’t come in there on some wild, ‘I’m in New York, fuck everybody,’” Drake said. “I almost wish he had come in there on that shit because I kind of lost a little bit of respect for the sentiment of the verse,” Drake said. “If it’s really ‘fuck everybody’ then it needs to be ‘fuck everybody’. It can’t just be halfway.”
Beyond that, Drake also recently said that Kendrick Lamar is not “murdering” him in any way.

“I didn’t really have anything to say about it,” Drake said recently. “It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me,” Drake revealed. “That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”
Additionally, Drake also recently said that he’s “done” with the “Control” record.
“I’m probably like as done as the rest of the world is with that record,” Drake said. “I think it came and it went. And not to discredit it. It was a good moment, but at the end of the day it’s just like—it was one of those sort of like fleeting Twitter frenzies that like—it was cool for what it was. My thing is I like lasting power. I feel like he made a decision, you know what I’m saying? And it was a decision to make. He was like ‘Man, I’m either gonna go for this moment because I know it’s gonna be a big moment or I’m gonna take heed to the fact that I have real relationships and I’m gonna like not do that.’ Cause I’ll be real, I thought of doing that before. I thought ‘Man, it’d be crazy if I just went off on everybody.’ But it’s just kinda like, ‘Ah, where does it really get me? Then what? Then every time I rap people are gonna expect me to be confrontational and when I’m not then it’s not entertaining?’ It’s like it kinda puts you in a box a bit. I don’t know if I necessarily respect it.”
