Pusha T recently talked about various aspects of his solo debut, My Name Is My Name, a project that has been pushed back several times despite being ready for retail.

“Album’s finished,” Pusha T said in a recent interview with MTV. “Album’s amazing. It’s been a lot of the talk of the pushbacks and so on and so forth, but that’s out of my control. And it don’t matter ’cause my dope don’t spoil, like, it really doesn’t. My dope don’t spoil.”

Pusha T also talked about Kanye West’s involvement with the project, saying that it was important to make sure the album was “right in his eyes,” according to MTV. West is slated to be a producer on five of the album’s songs. Pharrell Williams, Don Cannon, Swizz Beatz, The-Dream and Joaquin Phoenix are also set to be producers on the release.

“When I heard [the beat], I knew it was mine, man,” Pusha said of Phoenix’s contribution in a report published August 5. “Soon as I heard it, I was like, ‘Listen, I hope you’re not playing this for me to show me how good this beat is.’ And of course, I ended up with it.”

My Name is My Name is due October 8.

In December 2012, Pusha spoke about the album’s title and what it means to him.

“Basically, I was trying to pick a title that embodied who I am as an artist,” Pusha said. “I wanted people to understand that Pusha is everything that I really, really am.”
