After being hospitalized for what was allegedly a serious illness, it’s now been reported that Weslyn “Mama Wes” Monroe, mother of the late Pimp C, has passed away.
News of Mama Wes’ death was passed on by noted Texas rapper and former UGK member Bun B who offered his condolences in a post made on Instagram.
“Thanks to everyone that has sent prayers and condolences,” said Bun B. “She was a great woman. Nurture us from boys to men and made us strong enough to handle this industry. She was the one that kept us going when we didn’t wanna go anymore. She was the backbone of UGK, the definition of loyalty, the personification of unconditional love and the essence of what being Trill really meant. She’s finally reunited with her son. God bless you both. RIP Mama Wes. You gave everything to make us Underground Kings.”
Most recently, Mama Wes, who played a vital role in all things concerning Pimp C’s music and estate following his death, was present at a celebration honoring UGK’s induction into the Museum of the Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame. The event, held in December 2012, took place in Pimp C’s hometown of Port Arthur, Texas.

HipHopDX would like to offer its condolences to the friends and family of Mama Wes at this time.
