Mac Miller Says ScHoolboy Q’s “Oxymoron” “Is Better Than Kendrick Lamar’s “good kid, m.A.A.d. city”

Mac Miller, who released Watching Movies with the Sound Off in June, recently said ScHoolboy Q’s Oxymoron is better than Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city.

“It’s better than Kendrick’s album,” Miller said in an interview with HardknockTV. “My opinion doesn’t fucking matter. Q’s album is crazy. It’s just filled with so much. I don’t know, man. I think that Q made a better album than Kendrick.”

Miller then said that, despite his statement to the contrary, there isn’t a clear cut “better album.”

“There is no such thing as a better album at the end of the day,” Miller said. “They probably both are different. But I just wanted to say [that] because it creates more hype for [my] homie’s album. But I really believe that. Or do I? Or am I just saying it? Do I believe anything I say? What is life?”

Miller and Top Dawg Entertainment artists have become frequent collaborators. In September 2012, Miller told HipHopDX that TDE would play a “big part” in his future work. During the interview, he also spoke about how much he and TDE members, specifically ScHoolboy Q, work together.

“This is how I look at it,” Miller said. “I’m out in L.A. right? I’m used to being from Pittsburgh and no one’s there. I mean, there are people there. There’s people in Pittsburgh that are doing their thing but in the grand scheme of things, Lil Wayne’s not just chillin’ in the ‘Burgh, you know what I’m saying? So, to be out here, the people I work with are the people that will come to the crib and just smoke and listen to what I’m doing. They won’t even be like, ‘Yo, let’s do a record.’ You know what I’m sayin’? Q will come over and just listen. He’ll be like, ‘Yo, play that shit you did last night,’ and we’ll just kick it. We won’t even work. That’s how it works. Then, we [eventually] make music.”

Miller was one of the artists Kendrick Lamar mentioned in Monday’s leak of Big Sean’s “Control.”

“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with,” Lamar said on the song. “But this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is. That goes for Jermaine ColeBig K.R.I.T.WalePusha T, Meek MillA$AP RockyDrake, Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator]Mac Miller. I got love for you all but I’m tryin’ to murder you niggas. Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas [and that] they don’t want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I’m trying to raise the bar high.”

Miller responded to Lamar’s mention of “not one more noun or verb” being heard from rappers in a Twitter update.

In his HardknockTV interview, Miller also said he has work with DJ Jazzy Jeff that he hopes to release

“It’s going to happen,” Miller said. “I just need to stop doing so much shit. I think next year, I’m just going to sit in my house for a year and then I’ll probably do all that stuff then. But yeah, I got to get up with Jeff and we got to. You know Jeff. That is one of my favorite people, so we’ve got to do it. We’ve just got to sit down and do it ’cause now it’s like all the shit we made for it was like in 2010, which maybe is tight, but I don’t know. I’ve got to talk to him. But yeah, one day.”

The defining moment of Mac Miller’s career was Kendrick technically calling him “nigga” on his Control verse. He can retire in peace now. Mac needs to STFU when the grown folks are talkin’!!!!!!

    7. everything the Black man creates ..or makes popular the white man takes and fucks it up…wake up black man .. i cant appreciate wa white rapper..

      1. Us Black folks can sell hip-hop records to white kids and perform hip-hop for white kids, knowing that for at least some of them the music speaks to them and they can relate to, if not most, then at least some of it, and expect that there will never be any white rappers. We as Black people exposed them to our music intentionally, or at least knowingly and never with a complaint. So why hate on white rappers? They aren’t like Elvis dissing and appropriating Black culture, for the most part they respect it’s origins. For the most part they are simply following in our artistic footsteps. Hip-hop is a gift to the whole world man.

      2. SORRY WHAT I MEANT TO SAY WAS THIS: Us Black folks CAN’T sell hip-hop records to white kids and perform hip-hop for white kids, knowing that for at least some of them the music speaks to them and they can relate to, if not most, then at least some of it, and expect that there will never be any white rappers. 8. Wow, that hate for Mac is strong in here. Bunch of racist fools. Watching Movies was actually dope, a huge step up from his first album which was weak. The fact that Soul, Jay Elect, Q and Earl all co-sign dukes work means a lot more to me than some random trolls on the net.

    9. that pic of them 2 up top is suspect as fuck..

that said thats a bold fuckin statement bec kendrick dropped a top 10 EVER in any era classic.
