Fat Trel Reportedly Signed To Maybach Music Group

The DMV emcee’s manager posts a picture on his Instagram account showing off Trel’s new MMG contract.

After a long-lived and public friendship with fellow DMV emcee Wale, Fat Trel has reportedly inked a contract with Rick Ross’ label Maybach Music Group as well. As first reported on JukeBoxDC, Trel’s manager, Debo, posted a picture on his Instagram account revealing the artist’s new affiliation (that picture has since been removed from Debo’s account but is included below).

The same source has also alluded to the possibility that Fat Trel will have Jay-Z’s imprint, Roc Nation, on his side as a management force but that claim is currently unsupported.

While neither announcement has been verified by Rick Ross or MMG, Trel himself has quietly acknowledged congratulations from fans and industry counterparts on Twitter. Referencing Wale and the upcoming announcement, Trel Tweeted: “BIG NEWS COMING REAL SOON!!!”

Jonny Shipes, manager of artists like Joey Bada$$ and Big K.R.I.T. also extended his congratulations via the social media site.

Despite his relationship with Wale, the news of the signing comes as a surprise given Trel’s affiliation and working partnership with another label-founder in Master P. The two artists have collaborated publicly as a part of the group the Loui V Mob which also includes Atlanta emcee Alley Boy. Master P himself nonchalantly noted that the group represented the future of his own No Limit Records label in an interview with MTV: “Fat Trel is my partner so, this the next generation of No Limit Forever, the revolution.” In our own exclusive interview with Master P. earlier this year, the label boss noted that 2013 would see more music from Fat Trel via No Limit: “So 2013, be looking for Alley Boy, Fat Trel, Miss Chee, T.E.C., T-Bo, Bengie B.”

HipHopDX will update this story with verification and further news as it progresses.

      1. and a dude from ohio who wishes he was from houston texas so much he even steals their songs for his first single

      1. you mean beats that all sound the same and a bunch of bitch ass niggas and frauds rapping on all his songs

      2. Rick Ross is not a fraud. He really was a gangster. He started off as a CO but found himself attracted to the crime life and as a result became a gangster. He still is a gangster. Wale is a terrific poet and Meek Mill is also true hiphop.

      3. These comments seem like they are dominated by white-skinned people and weirdos….I guess the anonymity brings out all the freaks.

This is a great career move for Fat Trel if it’s true because MMG does a superb job at pushing and promoting their artists.

I saw where one weirdo-white said that all MMG’s “beats sound the same which is pretty ignorant since Stalley, Rockie Fresh, & Wale have completely different sounds and tend to use their own select producers.

I saw where one freakish loner said that Ross was a “fraud as if a multi-millionaire CEO is concerned about some white suburban teens idea of authenticity.

Fat Trel is a talented artist and I wish him nothing but success.

      4. so you’re saying only white people have a problem with correctional officers rapping about being drug dealers?

    1. hopefully one day all of mmg will be flying somewhere on a jet and it will crash into the ocean or disappear in the bermuda triangle and hip-hop will be alive again

    2. Good job fat boy! You just signed to the fakest nigga hip-hop has ever seen! At least you gonna get a deal on Wingstop though

      1. kanye and j cole both have had #1 albums too, and jay-z is gonna have his 12th #1 album next week.. looks like they’re running the game too..

      2. All three of those sales included illegal copies downloaded for free(80% of sales) online while Wale’s sales were 150k copies sold leaving only a few copies illegally downloaded.

      3. wale had the number 1 album for 1 week when no one hot dropped a new album, second week J Cole sold more than Wale and Kanye West did in Coles 3rd week!

      4. dentalboy, you can pull up all the b.s. statistics you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that kanye and cole have #1 albums and jay’s gonna get another one, which is what the discussion was originally about..

      5. Yes, Wale did drop hard but its because true hiphop fans ate this the first day. This will rebound due to strong word of mouth and go platinum. Wale is a true hiphop poet. All of those other niggas you mentioned are wackass pop which tend to open bigger and last longer.

      6. “this will rebound due to strong word of mouth and go platinum”.. lmao, thanks for the laugh.. whatever helps you sleep at night dude..

      7. This isn’t a joke. XXL Magazine gave it an xl rating, better than what Born Sinner received. Metacritic gave this album a 65 rating, meaning generally favorable reviews and better than what Jay Z received for his latest album, which got mixed reviews. This album has strong word of mouth.

    3. Wasn’t this guy signed to Master P? Master P is always shouting him out, that’s the only reason I know his name. None of these guys are loyal, they always go with who’s bigger at the time. It will be interesting to see if this works out for him.

      1. ya won’t say a thing about the comments, but you’ll gang up on nat for speaking the truth, lmao

    5. FUCK!! I was genuinely a big fan until today, but its hard to back a gangster rapper when they are running with Officer Ricky

      1. for real these niggas aint got no shame they will sell they souls for a deal it dont even matter if their boss is the biggest fraud in the game

      2. youre so petty. you’ll stop being a fan of someone b/c of who they signed to? Are you a part of his contract or something? are you in it for the music or the business? What stake do you have in his contract? you fake ass fans suck. wwe bullshit. learn to listen to music asshole.

      3. Fat Trel’s music is brilliant, but is it still gonna be as good with Officer Ricky’s influence on it.

All I am saying is I don’t want to hear Fat Trel mention how he doesn’t like police or how you shouldn’t talk to the police, because his boss now is the police

        FUCK OFFICER RICKY!!

    6. People be hating on success Hard work pay off..Congradulations to fat trel and whoever make it into game..
