Tech N9ne says in an interview with Rolling Stone that that the music of the rock group The Doors saved his life and that he collaborated with the iconic group for “Strange 13,” the first cut Tech N9ne recorded for his forthcoming Something Else album. The collection is slated for a July 30 release.
“Strange 2013,” an update of The Doors’ “Strange Days,” was coordinated by producer Fredwreck, who worked with the surviving members of The Doors in 2004, when the then-Snoop Dogg covered their song “Riders On The Storm.” “Strange 2013” features Tech N9ne and The Doors members guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and organist Ray Manzarek. The track features tablas, guitars, sitars and the original Gibson/Kalamazoo organ that Manzarek played with The Doors. Manzarek died May 20, making “Strange 2013” one of his last recordings. The Doors singer Jim Morrison died of an apparent drug overdose in Paris, France in 1971.
Tech N9ne says that he named his company Strange Music because of two songs from The Doors, “People Are Strange” and “Strange Days.” “If I didn’t listen to their music and their fusion of sounds, I probably would’ve never called [my label] Strange Music,” Tech says in the interview. “I have Jim Morrison to thank for that. Who would’ve fuckin’ thunk it years later that I would work with his homies?”
Tech N9ne says he visited the Paris grave of Morrison in 2010 after performing in the French city for the first time.
In addition to The Doors, Cee Lo and System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian are also slated to appear on Something Else.

DOORS AND TECH N9NE! SHEEEET
so sick cant wait
The Doors are old and not even famous anymore.
Fuck yourself Bitch
You do realize that Jim Morrison (the lead singer) is dead, right? The Doors will live on forever… while your fave rapper will be in jail for tax evasion.

tech the best best lyricist ever but his music strange so people throw it off as skid shit
he need come correct and make somthing normal
he fell off after all 6’s and 7’s
couldnt listen to welcome to straange land
and boiling point feels like a cheap copy of k.o.d
plus the face paint scares people away
I disagree. I thought WTSL was a cool album. 2012 was a bad year for Tech, I didn’t care for any of his EPs that year, they only had 1 or 2 tracks worth playing each. I’m still excited to hear what he has though, all his guest features the past few years have been on point
Welcome to Strangeland is one of his most well put together albums – I loved that album.
Tell Me – Apathy
that sound is better than tech
lol @ “The Doors are old and not even famous anymore”
I wonder if that kid realizes they have been popular since the 1960’s…and will always be popular. My best advice to anyone reading my comment is don’t limit yourself to Hip Hop. I don’t take everything Jay-Z says as gold, but… he said one time that basically good music is good music and shouldn’t be blocked by genres. Jim Morrison had crazy lyrics, long before rap wasn’t even though about as a marketing plan….

Last time I checked it was 2013, not 1960. Stop pretending you know or listen to The Doors on your Ipod.
I’m 20 years old and I have The Doors on my iPod, and my iPod is 90% Hip-Hop.
This album is gonna bang!! Tech and Fredwreck is a deadly combo, and I’m interested to see what they have in store w/ this new album.
Jim Morrison was the reason why The Doors were popular a zillion years ago. They’ll always be known, more so infamouse because of how members OD’d, but music goes on, and at some point people have to stop worshipping these fossils, and that includes The Rolling Stones.
Kill yourself for disrespecting legends.
the doors are more talented than every rapper alive combined.id rather listen to the doors discography than any rapper dead or alive.and its funny everyone hating on classic rock but 100% of rappers have songs that sample these “fossils” and its ironic over half of my favorite rap songs growing up have samples from artists back in the 60s and 70s.took me about 15 years to admit it but its true
Shut the fuck up.
