Longtime Wu-Tang Clan-affiliated Staten Island, New York emcee Shyheim was recently arrested after police searched his house and, according to a story published on SILive.com, found a .32 caliber revolver, a Xanax pill, more than 40 glassines of heroin and other drug paraphernalia. The search, which was conducted by the Staten Island Gang Squad with the aid of a warrant, has brought about serious charges for the Rugged Child rapper which include second degree criminal-possession of a weapon and the possession of a controlled substance.
Shyheim Addresses Drug Arrest
Speaking to HipHopDX Friday afternoon shortly after his release, Shyheim was unable speak explicitly on any of his case’s details but maintained his innocence while speaking to the gravity of the charges: “I really can’t talk about the case, but you know, shit, [it’s] not looking too good right now. But, I [maintain] my innocence, I’m innocent. And that’s that. I don’t really know what else to say: I’m out, I’m okay, I’m healthy [and] I wanna thank everybody for their support. I just got out a couple of hours ago so my mind is all over the place you know what I’m sayin’, but it is some very serious charges, I’m looking at some serious time of course.”
Shyheim, who served federal time for an attempted robbery in 2002, went on to speak more specifically about his own situation as well as the often questionable practices of his local police department: “I just want people to know, of course you know the NYPD have a history of not flying straight, you know what I’m saying? Pretty much that. I remain that I’m innocent and I will fight it to the end, that’s basically all that I can do. There’s a lot of illegal stuff that went down in the procedures that wasn’t supposed to take place but my attorneys is on it and you know we gonna fight. I’m not the first person that this happened to, there’s a lot of innocent people in the prison system today and it’s just sad but true [that] you’re guilty until you’re proven innocent. I just really want to thank everybody for their support, the whole Hip Hop community [and] my family and friends for just being supportive.”

The onetime Big Daddy Kane protege continued, “You know, with this system man if you don’t have no attention to it they tend to try to do what they want to do to people from my community, I’m an artist but this happens to people everyday. Like I said, they don’t always play fair. I don’t want people to think that I’m just somebody out here living reckless, you know what I’m saying. Yeah I had my brushes with the law in the past but I served my time for that and in this situation right here I’m not guilty.”
Shyheim Breaks Down The Commissary
Despite these recent events, Shyheim also reported that his next album is done and he is continuing to prep its release: “Right now the album is called The Commissary, it’s featuring Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Sean Price, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Ras Kass, Naughty By Nature, Lords Of The Underground, Mya. It’s a great album, I think it’s some of my best work.”
Shyheim would not say when he is due back in court but HipHopDX will update this story as more information allows.
