After 16 years, Fluid, a club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s South Street district has announced its closing. Philly.com reported the news last week. The nightlife mainstay of the city’s Hip Hop and Electro community has reportedly succumbed to the changing values in the storied landmark area of the city, and opted to close.
Fluid’s manager, Oronde Gibson commented on South Street’s changes over his 14 years working there. “It’s gone from a mom and pop artsy-type thing to a corporate type-thing.”
To honor the club during its closing, The Roots’ Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson will headline the April 6 show. Joined by Mike Nyce and Yameen Allworld, the trio has hosted a long-standing Tastytreats party.
The club has been semenal to Diplo and the Mad Decent movement, in addition to ?uestlove, Black Thought and King Britt.
