Drake unexpectedly dropped off his latest single “Started From the Bottom” last week, even though he initially intended for the track to release on the night of the Grammy Awards. Of course, that inspired rappers to come out of the woodwork with their own remixes, inspiring Wiz Khalifa to be the first to hop on the anthem. Outside of Drizzy’s world, Curren$y lodged two cuts from his new mixtape New Jet City, while Lil Wayne also ranked similarly with his solo track “Staring at the World” and a guest spot on Waka Flocka Flame’s new joint “Stay Hood.”
Drake Rises To The Top, Wiz Khalifa Is A Close Second
Things don’t always go according to plan when it comes to Drake. He’s delayed his albums several times, so why not go the opposite route with his latest single, which he intended to drop on Grammy Awards night? Last weekend, the YMCMB rapper unleashed the cut “Started From the Bottom,” which ended up at the top of this week’s list. Wiz Khalifa was quick to cut his own version of the song and came in at No. 2 on the list. Of course, listeners can expect a trickle of unauthorized remixes to drop over the next few weeks, so this is only the beginning for Aubrey’s latest.
Curren$y Doubles Down With New Jet City Cuts
Curren$y is never one to rest on his laurels, most recently evidenced by the release of his most recent mixtape New Jet City. Per usual, Spitta gets a little help from his friends on the tape, which features guest appearances from Wiz Khalifa, Rick Ross, Styles P, Juvenile, French Montana and more. The mixtape spawned two standouts that clocked at No. 8 and 9 this week: “Clear” featuring Jadakiss and “Purple Haze” featuring Trinidad James and Lloyd. Just some more proof that the New Orleans, Louisiana rapper keeps resonating with each project.
