Though Slick Rick’s last reception in Brooklyn was decidedly frigid, with the legend being booed during a halftime performance at the Brooklyn Nets’ Barclays Center, The Ruler found a warm welcome on his birthday.
AllHipHop reports that Slick Rick celebrated his birthday with a sold-out performance and was joined by friends and family at Brooklyn Bowl in New York.
Slick Rick was accompanied by a full band and deejay as he performed some of his classics.
During the party, videos of Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Special Ed, Biz Markie, Chubb Rock, MC Lyte, Sway Calloway, and others wishing Rick a Happy Birthday were played.

“Last night was an incredible night for me as well as the Golden Era of Hip Hop. It is always great to see and perform for my fans, but to share my birthday with them at the Brooklyn Bowl was out of this world,” said the rapper.
“The highlight of the night was the Birthday shout out video from my peers. I was shocked and honored by all the kind words and stories about my career. To sum it up, I am blessed, and humbled by all the love for all of the years.”
