Talib Kweli has been working on his upcoming album Prisoner of Consciousness for a minute, releasing the tracklist for the LP a few months ago. After a few delays, the Brooklyn, New York emcee has pushed back the project yet again, this time settling on an April 23rd release date.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Kwe said that the LP will feature guest appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Nelly and Busta Rhymes, and will be based on live instrumentation. Additionally, he samples Eric B & Rakim’s “Paid in Full” for album track “Turnt Up” that kept the LP from meeting its original November release date. The delay also allowed him to record two new tracks.

But Kwe imparted some bad news for Black Star fans. After teaming up in late 2011 for a few shows, he and Yasiin Bey recorded four songs for an Aretha Franklin-inspired mixtape, though their schedules prevented them from completing the project. “I would love to get back into it whenever he’s ready,” said Kweli, who also plans to release new music from Hi-Tek through his Javotti imprint.
