Trinidad James Reacts To Def Jam Signing & Explains Source Of Inspiration

Earlier this week, Trinidad James announced his signing to Def Jam. In an interview with Power 106, the rapper addressed his reaction to inking a deal with the storied label.

“I mean, I don’t really celebrate things like this – I just thank God for it and keep moving,” explained James. “I was already griding and working, and doing my thing. Just in general…this is just adding more feel to the feeling I already had.”

Trinidad James was also asked about whether he drew inspiration from other artists. “My inspiration comes from life,” he said. “Everything in life. Because all I rap about is real life. The real things that’s going on in my life. I don’t ever call any artists’ names, because – for what? When you hear something, you’re gonna know where it came from.”

    1. only been rapping for 10 months

take note kids, anyone can be a rapper and get signed these days, you dont even have to have skills

    2. Look at this nigga fam…c’mon now. I’m not the type of person to judge someone solely based on what they look like, but these rappers look more and more like fuckin’ clowns. Look at niggas like this dude, Danny Brown, Chief Keef, Nicki Minaj…these are the motherfuckers that our kids are going to be emulating. When I say ‘our kids’, I mean all the kids in our community that we’re supposed to be raising into respectable men. Honestly, I don’t even care if this nigga got skills or not…I can’t support take someone seriously if they look like this. Are there any grown men left in hip-hop? ‘Cause to me they all look and act like overgrown kids.

      1. if you ever have a child and they have to look to a “rapper” as an inspiration or someone to look up to then apparently there isn’t much of a father figure or anyone to look up to. I listen to everything from Chief Keef and Trinidad to Emancipator and boombox. I’m going to be the person my daughter looks up to, i’m a Jr at Florida State and with that being said become and inspiration yourself for your kids so they don’t have to look to Sports or Music as a role model of sorts

      2. b, people always say that. “Kids shouldn’t be looking up to rappers and sports figures”. No shit. We all know that. The fact of the matter is, in the hood, most kids don’t have father figures. Is it their Father’s fault? OF COURSE it is. But that doesn’t change the fact that there are millions of kids who are heavily influenced by these rappers. All you have to do is look around for two seconds to see that. I’m glad you’re gonna be your daughter’s role model. We’re all proud of you. But you’re not gonna be the other 50 million kids’ role model. Their role model is gonna be guys like this. I’m on soapbox because I’m pointing out ignorance? That’s the problem with motherfuckers. Everybody is scared to speak out about shit even if they know its wrong. Fuck these rappers. These fools have been getting a pass for too long and not accepting any responsibility or accountability for their influence on kids, but they’ll gladly take their money though. And the truth of the matter is, you can be as good og a father as you wanna be, but if your daughter ends up with some dude that looks like this, you’re gonna be the first one sayin’ “Look at this clown ass dude!”.

      3. Man, everything you just said is so real and actually makes sense.. what the fuck are these kids doing these days and when did it become normal?!

      4. With the amount of programming going on today, yes it will be a fight just to direct your child on the right path. Like it or not in the black community music and sports holds a lot of influence.
Until we can make that change and enforce a better standard it really is a leadership, or recurring societal issue

    3. “I mean all the kids in our community that we’re supposed to be raising into respectable men”

Get off your soap box already. These rappers can be as ghetto as they want. Has nothing to do with how anyone raises their kids, or how kids in general develop.

    4. how is def jam going to recoup 2 million + dollars from this guy though? i really wanna know that

you got guys like game who cant even sell 90k albums in a week so what does that mean for trinidad james?

      1. Believe me they thought it all out. They wouldn’t just take a risk like that. Maybe they’re looking to push a new artist in that market and he fits their description. I could see him having a couple singles (ft. like Gucci Mane or Roscoe Dash) with decent sales in the next year or two. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he had decent album sales.. And then show money… Believe me they’re getting that investment back

      2. 360 deal – 300 shows a year – And place that mug on some merchandise – oh – and he can sponsor Dental Awareness. Net profits = $20,000,000.00

      3. ALL IT TAKES IS ONE SONG 2 EAT

        LOOK @ RICH BOY

“THROW SOME D’S” WAS ILL BUT I DON’T HEAR ANYONE SPEAKING ON HIS MIXTAPE DROPPING SOON

PROLLY AIN’T KNOW HE GOTTA MIXTAPE COMING

BUT “COMPANY” CAN PLACE THAT SONG THE NEXT 10 YEARS REGARDLESS IF HE HAS A HIT SONG AGAIN OR NOT

        “JUS ‘BOAT A CALLALAC”-RICH BOY

        LOL

THEY GONNA TAKE TRINIDAD’S SONG AND SPIN IT THRU THE MACHINE

LIKE THEY DID WITH DRAKE’S MIXTAPE & KEEF’S SINGLE

WE’LL SEE IF SHABBA RANKS REINCARNATED CAN HOLD SOME WEIGHT IN THE GAME OR GO AWAY LIKE MISKEEN JEANS

    5. I dont know diz nigga but his song is dope and he looks a cool nigga. I bet he is da next big gangsta rapper. diz song touch me many thingz. swag

    6. I’d put money on it that 99% of the haters on this thread are French Montana dick riders.. Finally we get a little flavor in the game and all ya can do is bitch! BRICK SQUAD

      1. IF HE SOUNDED GHETTO, YOU WOULD SAY HE SOUNDS RETARDED LIKE CHIEF KEEF…

IF HE IS WELL-SPOKEN, YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT IT…

WHAT DO YALL RAP FANS WANT???

        JUST HATE, HATE, HATE???

    7. As a chick, I cannot stand this ugly rapper movement…he’s not even hot or buzzing…he just probably paid to be on blogs or whatever…and this is coming from somebody who is a fan of ratchet music…I LOVE 2 CHAINS Birthday Song…but this dude sucks…the end…

      1. *yawns* Listen, it’s cool if youre gay but I can’t help it if youre mad you thought this was gonna be a sausage fest…

      2. Nah, she’s fine. Trust me, I’m fucking her. Tan, thick, phat ass, beautiful eyes, gorgeous face, pristine pussy, makes the best chicken wings on the East coast, and is smarter than 90% of you imbicils. The type of girl you losers can only fantasize about. By the way, she’s right, this nigga is a jester, like ya’ll. That’s why you clown ass niggas are on his pipe already, you relate to his clownery. By the way, you can accuse ME of being stuck in the 90’s, I’ll be that. There was a lot more real niggas in the 90’s, and rappers had integrity, intelligence, and were held to a standard not only with their skills but with their actions as a man. I know the idea of accountability and excellence is scary to you young dudes, that’s why you’re more comfortable with fools like this, they make you feel justified in your own folly.

I’ll see you later on baby…

    8. LMFAO THIS NIGGA IS TROLLIN YOUR ASS MORE THAN ME..FOR REAL DOE IM NOT EVEN TROLLIN ..TRINIDAD JAMES BE MAKIN GOOD MUSIC..GO LISTEN TO SOME OTHER JOINTS FROM HIM LIKE FEMALES WELCOMED..THISS NIGGA FO REAL DOE I AINT LIE NIGGA!!!

    9. he’s fuckin’ dope. but if you stuck in 90’s and old head you probably hatin’, so fuck you! fuck conservative and elitist hip hop fans!

      1. IT’S NOT ABOUT BETTER OR WORSE…IF YOU WANT TO BE STUCK IN THE 90’S, YOU ARE FREE TO DO SO.

BUT WHAT BENEFIT DO YOU GET FROM CONSTANTLY HATING ON THE CURRENT STATE OF RAP MUSIC?

IF IT’S POPULAR IT’S BECAUSE PEOPLE LIKE IT…EVEN IF YOU WANNA ARGUE THAT THE CORPORATIONS ARE FORCING IT ON PEOPLE…THE PEOPLE CAN STILL TURN OFF THE RADIO, CORP IS NOT HOLDING GUNS TO THEIR HEADS!

IF PEOPLE CAN STOP BUYING ALBUMS BECAUSE THEY CAN DOWNLOAD THEM…THEN PEOPLE CAN STOP LISTENING TO THE RAP THAT YOU DON’T LIKE. BUT THEY LIKE IT…

      1. stop preachin’ what’s good and what’s bad. folks just wanna have fun and that’s what Trinidad providin’

    10. I’m actually from Trinidad and Tobago…and this guy is a disgrace to our country. I was expecting some sort of talent but noooo, we get a donkey wearing gold.
