This week, 50 Cent emerged from his relative media silence and made a lot of noise. The G-Unit general released his video for “My Life” featuring Eminem and Adam Levine, but the focus remained on his beefs with French Montana and issues with Game, who he name-checks on his single. Rihanna had a much better week, landing her first number one album on the charts with Unapologetic, which features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Eminem and Future. Finally, Slick Rick faced a sea of boos after he took the stage at Barclays Center, with the crowd throwing him audible shade as he performed his set.

50 Cent Beefs With French Montana, Releases New Single

Being relatively out of the media spotlight in recent months, 50 Cent made a strong return this week with a series of interviews and the release of his new single and video for “My Life” featuring Eminem and Adam Levine. After announcing that his new album Street King Immortal will release on February 26, 2013, Fif dug back into his beef roots and threw shots at French Montana, calling him the “new Ja Rule” and explaining that his problems with Floyd Mayweather stem from the fact that the boxer owes him $2 million. Game, who he told to “suck a dick” on “My Life,” responded to his comments, calling him a “zombie,” while the G-Unit chief said that he has no malice in his heart for his former associate. Stating that he has “CDs” worth of material recorded with Eminem, Fiddy reignited his beef with French Montana by stating that he sold out DJ Khaled, later beefing with him on Twitter. He capped his week with news that he’s executive producing a show for Starz titled “Power.”

Rihanna Scores First Number One Album With Unapologetic

Rihanna had a wildly successful week. The Bajan songstres released her seventh consecutive album Unapologetic, a diverse work that spanned the gamut of pop collaborations (David Guetta) to Hip Hop duets (Future, Eminem). After taking 200 journalists on her negatively reviewed “777 Tour,” the Island Def Jam signee showed that all press is good press with the release of her new album, which marks her first chart-topping release with 238,000 copies sold. Additionally, the sassy star made the top 20 cut of Forbes’ Highest-Paid Musicians list of 2012, crowned by Dr. Dre. According to the publication, she netted $53 million, enough to rank her at No. 12 – a cut above her Roc Nation boss Jay-Z and his wifey Beyonce.

Slick Rick Gets Booed During Brooklyn Performance

Slick Rick didn’t have it so hot earlier in the week. Ricky took the stage to deliver a halftime performance at Brooklyn, New York’s Barclays Center during a basketball game between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. The veteran rapper began his performance by shouting out Beyonce and Jay-Z, who were in attendance, and launched into a slew of classic hits. But after running through “Hey Young World” and segueing into “Mona Lisa,” the eyepatch-sporting emcee faced trouble when the audience turned on him, booing him through the end of the set. Slick Rick is yet to comment on the matter, but it was surely not a bright day for Hip Hop.
