Last August, it was rapper Young Jeezy who was appointed the Senior VP of A&R of Atlantic Recordings. Now, it looks like another musician has worked his way up the ranks in the music business.

In a recent report from Billboard, it was announced that producer and songwriter Dallas Austin has been named the Senior Vice President of A&R at Island Records. This new position will find Austin writing, producing and discovering new talent for the storied label.

“I am truly honored,” said Austin in a statement.

In his twenty-plus years in the industry, Austin has won multiple Grammy awards for his work alongside artists like TLC, Boyz II Men, Colin Munroe and Michael Jackson. The Georgia native first got his start as a member of the short lived LaFace Hip Hop group Highland Place Mobsters.

As previously mentioned, Austin follows the likes of Jeezy, No I.D., and most recently The-Dream being named to high-up positions within labels.
