Raekwon recently delivered a standout verse on G.O.O.D. Music’s “The Morning,” a cut included on the crew’s latest album release Cruel Summer.
During an interview with VIBE.com, the Chef explains how his feature on Kanye West’s “Gorgeous” helped build the relationship with ‘Ye and that the Chicago, Illinois emcee simply reached out for a verse on “The Morning.”
“He hit me up told me what he was doing said he needed me on it. I’m a big, big fan,” explained Rae. “He’s making a lot of progression with his music and he recognized a real MC. Because this is all know, all I know. I’m just programmed to touch shit that I feel has substance and is strong and makes me want to write and get in the car and bump that shit.”
The Wu-Tang Clan member said that his lyrics were inspired by the West Indian influence on the track. He wasn’t in the studio with the rest of the G.O.O.D. Music family when he laid his verse, but that he “felt the song” to a point where it seamlessly came together. He also touched on Ghostface’s stellar verse on “New God Flow” and addressed how there was a thread between their rhymes
“Ghost is a welder, like I’m a welder. I ain’t surprised at nothing that Ghost do. He gon pull that blow torch out. We gotta keep up with the young boys.”

Somebody tell the chef to lay off the cheeseburgers. He looks like Rerun from What’s Happening.
Raekwon should be thanking God every day that Chief Keef came along. Hip hop audiences who actually PAY for music had forgotten about Raekwon long ago. Then came Chief Keef, with the same nickname “Chief” as Raekwon. Now all of the sudden people are re-releasing Raekwon’s debut tape, he’s on the Cruel Summer album. I still can’t believe that Keef didn’t sign with us down here at YMCMB but it’s still nice to see a young black man and an old black has-been like Raekwon getting that paper. Down here at YMCMB, we get that paper every day.
