Kendrick Lamar On Dr. Dre’s “Detox”: “Y’all Will Get It When You Get It”

It’s been over a decade since the fabled Detox was supposed to hit stores, and at this rate, it looks like fans will have to wait another decade before Dr. Dre is ready to release it. Now, in a recent interview with Power 98 FM, Dre’s protege Kendrick Lamar speaks on the album.

Lamar, who was promoting his own impending LP good kid, m.A.A.d city, couldn’t give a timetable on Detox‘s release. Rather, the Compton emcee said that when Dre’s ready to drop it, that’s when it’ll be released.

“Dre is definitely a perfectionist,” he said. “I’m going to say this, y’all will get it when you get it. When he feels it’s time, then it’s time.”

Kendrick also spoke on his latest single off his widely anticipated studio debut titled “Swimming Pools (Drank).” He explained that the song was inspired by growing up in a household where there were a lot of parties in which he witnessed both the positive and negative effects of alcohol.

“[‘Swimming Pools’] really just comes from the experience of being in a household where there’s a lot of alcohol,” he explained. “I was growing up in a household where we had lots of house parties and stuff like that, just taking the lifestyle and putting it into a song and getting advice out there [that] you can be a drunk, or you can drink casually.”

    1. Kendrick Lamar On Dr. Dre’s “Detox”: “Y’all Will Get It When You Get It

…. BUT WE DONT WANT IT ANYMORE!!!!!

    2. . If it doesn’t drop this year or 2013 It will never come out. I hope dre drops that ‘hey young world’ track. That snippet sounds soo sick. Dre needs to get hopsin on detox and Tyler the creator. He has the perfect voice for a big dre beat

      1. Maybe, maybe not. Dre’s owes no one anything. If Detox happens, great. If not, tough shit. We all need to fucking get over it lol. I for one am not waiting for it anymore, or I’m trying not to, if it comes I’ll be stoked but I’m not expecting it anymore.

    3. your all retarded. if you listen at all to DRE and not websites or stupid ass rumours, you’d know that dre’s droppin that shit when he retires. detox is literally gonna be dre’s last “fuck you” to rap , hes gonna drop it and go on one last tour then dudes done, he’ll be set up for the rest of his life. ONCE AGAIN, if you people paid attention to what the ARTIST was saying then you’d know this, but instead you rely on websites who only report on this kinda shit because it generates discussion and overall coverage.

      1. Dre’s already making enouhg money of those beats headphones you really think he needs this album to retire. And where the fuck do you get your information from jimmy iovine GTOH you probably just read some stuff on mediatakeout now youre talking like you know shit. Please kill yourself before youre ignorance infects other

      2. Then tell people like Kendrick Lamar and other West coast artists to stop talking about it. How many months did Kendrick and others use detox “inside information” to stay relevant? He should have said THIS every time someone asked.

      3. i actually watched an interview he did way back in the day, before the cronic, an he laid his whole fuckin plan out. so stfu, YOU have no idea what your talking about. have fun waitin on the next 2 chainz or mmg album you white sheep mother fucker. detox is gonna be classic, not because of hype or however long he CHOOSES to work on it, but because its fuckin dre. dudes a legend with the beats and the fact that he wont have any ACTORS on that shit will make it worth listenin too. you can talk all this shit about detox but remember that kush and i need a doctor are his first singles, think about how successful they were, the feel of those songs.

      4. he blatently says that hes gonna make enough money to set himself and his SONS up for LIFE. so no, 300-400 million dollars isnt gonna set rich mother fuckers up for life, the diamond life costs money, and for some people thats the only way to live it.

    4. Lamar is most likely gonna be involved with Detox and Detox is coming probably after Em’s next album within the same year or 2015

    5. fuck the fans all yall faggots gonna do is give it a low rating downlod the shit and say it was trash and how much it didnt sale

    6. “hes gonna drop it and go on one last tour then dudes done, he’ll be set up for the rest of his life”

That makes no sense. He’s already set for life, and could walk away tommorrow. Point being, he talked about Detox coming months ago. He should have just dropped it. Even if it sounded like Slaughterhouse’s album, I bet it still would have done 2 million easy. Everybody was talking about it.

      1. No, it wouldn’t have sold 2mil… Look at today’s climate of record sales and Dre hasn’t been a GREAT seller. And that’s when he was more popular.

      2. 2001 – 6x Platinum
That’s a GREAT seller if you ask me

But I agree, he wouldn’t even sell 2 mill today. Not even Kanye can push more than Platinum these days.

    7. Yo Detox ppl been waiting on that album since before 05. He actually started telling people he would put it out soon back in 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 2012 NOW. Holy Shit… he’s always putting out these other artists like maybe if you put out an album with them featured on it they would get that CLASSIC status we’ve been waiting for but now the hype has passed it’s climax and people are just bored thinking about it. It’s a miracle Eminem even put out two and two half albums. Becuase 50 Cent was about to straight up abandon the whole Shady Aftermath team bcuz none could get their shit together. Youd think it’d be easy right… when you’re going through hard times you put that into your music, you have all the tools and power to create any sized project you want. People are just lazy or they’re scared of the spotlight. Scared to be real artists. Losing respect by the day for them… and it will effect how people see their legacy and what they feel when they listen to old music… BETTER TO BURN OUT THAN TO FADE AWAY. BITCHES

    8. LOL What is this weak ass nigga wearin?!! Fuck Dre,he aint got that spark no more and its silly to keep askin bout this album. He barely produce anymore anyways.Look at his output from the last 3 years.

    9. i have a feeling that detox is going to change shit

so hes gotta wait till people are done cashing in on hip pop

i dont think that shit will last much longer

    10. first of you a dumb motherfucker if you be waiting since 2005 , better check other artists out. when it comes out it should be good dre was probably not satisfied and at least he got D.O.C. working with him. We ll see

    11. Come on now, who really cares about Detox anymore. I been a fan of Dre for years but this album has had so much anticipation that it will never live up to the hype and that’s providing that it ever comes out, which I doubt anyway.

    12. Yep thats right.I bet when Detox comes out (and it will) yall muthafuckaz will be the 1st ones 2 buy it. what the fuck the media want from The Good Doc????????? shit.

    13. This record not selling more than 500k units unless the record label buys alot of them back. If he finally does drop the detox I will be downloading that shit for free. There’s a difference between buildin hype and bein arrogant and thinkin people will still jump for joy when you finally drop your album after a decade of waitin.

    14. DETOX WILL BE RELEASED POSTHUMOUSLY IN THE YEAR 2086. AND YEAH, IT WILL FLOP.

THE CHRONIC IS THE CLASSIC BUT DRE SHOULD’VE DROPPED DETOX YEARS AGO. AND DON’T TRY TO AGRUE WITH THAT “DRE IS A PERFECTIONIST” SHIT, HOW MANY YEARS IS IT IN MAKING? 10? DRE IS JUST LAZY NOWADAYS, NOBODY WORKS ON ALBUM OVER 10 YEARS… IF HE WANTED TO WORK ON THAT 10 YEARS LONG, HE SHOULD JUST WORK, SHUT UP AND DON’T ANNOUNCE THE FAKE RELEASE DAYS SINCE EVER.

AND I’M NOT LOOKING FORWARD, LIL JON’S CRUNK ROCK WAS DELAYED YEARS AS WELL AND IT WAS NOT AS GOOD AS THE LIL JON ALBUM SHOULD BE.

    15. Should be a double cd with one disc old fans and one disc new to not dissapoint anyone. I too grew up in a drunken household and saw alot of immature crazy antics. I love that we have a new intelligent artist in hip-hop talking about issues and not just money and pussy. I hear Cubes next album is full of more political shit and angry issue talk which is what this country needs in this economy.

    16. I hope lamar’s album has some of those Detox beats.. in any case, “perfectionism” is another excuse for being anal. Artists create art, creative people create, then it is released, either people like it or they don’t. All of this stalling just makes the general audience more ambivalent as the years go by. the culture is moving on.

    17. But WhatTF is Detox? And WhoTF is that “doctor drey”? I listened to hip-hop when I was a little boy, but now I always see the same ol sh*it in this music: Retarded guys beefing with each other like they’re still childish men. Hip-hop is definitely not my sh*t anymore. All that “swaaag”, “beef”, “cash money”, “b*tches-n*ggas”, “blah-blah” talk is definitely not a lifestyle for nowadays’ grown men… I don’t see rappers anymore, I only see clowns / childish caracterial men.

      1. You really need to hear this album then. And you should know who Dr. Dre is; it’s kinda sad you don’t. He’s been a legend since the late 80s
