Nicki Minaj Praises Foxy Brown, Says She Was “The Most Influential Rapper To Me”

Nicki Minaj’s love for Foxy Brown runs deep. After surprising a New York City, New York crowd at Roseland Ballroom with an appearance from Fox Boogs, the Harajuku Barbie sat down with MTV News to discuss just how much the Ill Na Na means to her, calling her the “most influential rapper to me” and emphasizing the importance of paying homage to rappers while you still can.

“I never really told Foxy how much she has influenced me and how much she changed my life, and you’ve gotta tell people that when they’re alive to even be able to take the compliment, instead of paying tribute to them when they’re no longer here,” she said. “I never really knew how she felt about me — in the industry, with women, you kinda just tread lightly — and I’m glad I was able to finally come out and say: ‘You were the most influential female rapper to me.'”

The Young Money rapstress also called Foxy’s appearance at her show “emotional,” stating that she wanted nothing but to give thanks to her for opening the door and allowing her to shine.

“For her to be on my stage, it was emotional, and she was emotional,” she continued. “This is what this is really about. When you get where you have arrived to, you give thanks to people who opened those doors and triggered something in your mind. When I found out Foxy Brown was from Trinidad, that did something to me. In my mind, I felt like I could be proud of where I’m from.”

    1. When you talk about RAP, you gotta talk about Ja rule… Nicki, stop sayin’ lies and shit, and tell it how it is. Ja Rule is yo biggest influence, you talentless biatch!

      1. why would old ass ja rule help nicki out? nicki’s a MUCH bigger star then ja is right now. ja’s last hit song was in 2004. plus ja rule is wack as hell. nigga can’t sing for shit.

      2. Ja ain’t old son, he 30 somethin’… Not to mention he looks 25.

On the real side of things, every nigga needs Ja Rule if he/she wants to succeed in this motherfuckin’ industry. Ja Rule is a COLD nigga.

      3. 30+ is old nigga. if you’ve been rapping since the 90s then you’re also old. and nicki succeeded WITHOUT that wack nigga hopping on her songs. and you’re stupid if you don’t realize that.

    2. Ja Rule’s hotness never ends. Some niggaz tried to stop him but they failed and Ja Rule wiped ’em out of existence.

    3. new info just in… In fact Ja Rule is everyone’s father, because he just can’t stop fuckin’ bitches! He’s that nigga who fucks wives with his tremendous black cock!

    4. Things been even better since Ja’s hiatus… He’s been doing even better. Gettin’ even more popular an’ shit.

    5. Ja dick rider stfu. We all know that you’re just one lonely fan commenting repeatedly on this site. His career died years ago, get over it.

      1. Co Sign! No disrespect to foxy cuz the bitch was bad and what she did but…… Look at what Foxy and Kim look like and look at Nikkis persona. That shit equals Queen B!!! Queen B all day and nothing else!!!!!!!

      1. nicki minaj already makes hits you fucking idiot! your love, right thru me, moment 4 life, super bass, starships, beez in the trap, pound the alarm. not to mention her appearances on bedrock, bottoms up, lil freak, my chick bad, make me proud, her verse on kanye’s monster, dance (ass), turn me on, give me all your lovin. so no, she doesn’t need advice on how to make hits, especially from a washed up rapper who hasn’t made a hit song in almost a decade.

    6. Ja Rule could help Nicki sell even more records… Only if he jumps on her album, and that’s only if he jumps on every song.

    7. Ja Rule could kill young money… Good thing they cool… Ja Rule is a cold ass nigga who murders them careers… Just look at 50. Murdered that sucka.

      1. it was funny at first but then you killed.

    10. she was subliminally dissin kim the whole time she was talking about foxy. calling fox her biggest inspiration knowing fox and kim don’t like each other. if you wanna know who nickis biggest female inspiration is watch the 10 minute you tube vid of her biting the shit out of lil kim

    11. nicky… u a bold face lie! lol knownin u got all those old vids u did covering lil kim’s songs, re doin her flow! GTFOH! hahaha but fox is like nas and kim is like jigga. both successful but one had a more successful career as far as cross over hits

    12. What the fuck??? whats up with all the comments about Ja?

damn, never laughed so much today lol my stomach hurts

    13. I totally see where Nicki was coming from. Fox has always been that Bitch. She ran that female Rap shit. Her and Kim were at the forefront of their game. It was easier for me to relate to Foxy as well. Foxy was 100% real, without all the identity crisis issues, and countless
plastic surgeries. Needless to say, the King Bitch spit fire on a dope track. I totally agree with Nicki, Foxy did her thing, and she is one of the few female rappers who is legendary, and in her own lane!
