Sacramento, California Hip Hop duo Blackalicious has announced plans to re-release their early ’90s EP, Melodica. The 1994 Solesides Records seven-track release (reportedly first sold a year prior on limited edition cassette tape) was long considered a Rap rarity, with copies selling for over $100 at retailers. HipHopDX has learned that on July 31, Black Mines Records will re-release the project made by Gift Of Gab and Chief Xcel.
Melodica features early production from Quannum Projects affiliate DJ Shadow, as well as an appearance from Latyrx (billed as “Lateef The Truthspeaker and Asia Born”). The re-release will feature the song, “Changes,” which was on limited vinyl release, and boasts production by Xcel, Shadow and UNKLE’s James Levelle.
“Changes” premiered today (July 17) on HipHopDX.
Blackalicious revealed plans for another album in the future. The pair, who performed at 2012’s South By Southwest Music Festival, last released The Craft in 2005. Gift Of Gab’s third solo album, The Next Logical Progression, was released earlier this year.
