Singer Lauryn Hill may soon be facing serious time in prison, three years to be exact, for intentionally failing to file taxes starting in 2005. TMZ reports that Hill pled guilty while appearing in front of a judge earlier today (June 29).

HipHopDX previously reported that between 2005 and 2007 the singer earned $1.8 million but willingly chose not to file taxes all three years.

Following news of Hill’s tax woes earlier this month the singer turned to her Tumblr account to give fans her side of the story.

“My intention has always been to get this situation rectified.  When I was working consistently without being affected by the interferences mentioned above, I filed and paid my taxes,” Hill explained. “This only stopped when it was necessary to withdraw from society, in order to guarantee the safety and well-being of myself and my family.”

On top of possible prison time the singer could also be forced to pay almost $100,000 in fines. Sentencing will be revealed during a hearing in November.
