A wave of new songs flooded HipHopDX this week. The disses and high-profile leaks of recent were not part of this week’s additions, but some quality music drove the clicks. Included was an Eminem freestyle from Ice-T’s The Art Of Rap documentary, an add-a-verse remix to one of the year’s biggest songs and collaborations, and a Tupac cover. Lil Wayne and Pusha T’s respective spars still drove interest, as did Wayne’s “My Homies Still” alliance track with G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean. Big K.R.I.T. also performed strongly with one of the most timeless Mississippi music collaborations of all time, with a B.B. King guest spot on his Live From The Underground.
Twista Hops On Kendrick Lamar & Dr. Dre’s “The Recipe”
An unofficial remix drove listens this week. Chicago’s Twista jumped on April’s “The Recipe” by Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre and introduced some to the big budget TDE track, while others just revisited. With K.Dot’s previous work with GLC and BJ The Chicago Kid, he has strong musical and family ties to the Chi. This only sounds right, as Twista verses are known to do more than most rappers simply seeking shine.
Eminem Freestyles Are The Ultimate Promotion
Eminem has always said he’s a huge fan of Ice-T. Ice-T acknowledged that to HipHopDX in 2010 when Em reportedly told him that his first Rap purchase was an early Ice 12″. That respect showed when the elusive Em dropped a freestyle for Ice-T’s The Art Of Rap film, which also features Nas, Kanye West, RZA and others. Smartly, Ice and company leaked the freestyle to the web this week, and everybody wants to know what comes off the top of Marshall Mathers’ dome. Hopefully most of them will learn a lil’ something with Ice-T’s film, coming soon.
