Donna Summer has passed away at the age of 63 years old.

According to TMZ, she was in Florida at the time of her death. The Queen of Disco had been suffering from cancer, and was trying to keep the gravity of her illness quiet. The site says that they spoke with someone close to the situation several weeks ago and that “she didn’t seem too bad” and was working on completing a new album.

The iconic performer rose to prominence in the ‘70s with hits including “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls” and “Last Dance. Her records were heavily sampled in Hip Hop. Tech N9ne and Beyonce sampled “Love to Love You Baby” for “Trapped in a Psycho’s Body” and “Naughty Girl,” respectively, while Nas and Royce Da 5’9 pulled from “Once Upon a Time” for their respective cuts “Street Glory” and “Something’s Wrong With Him.”

HipHopDX sends its condolences to Summer’s family during this difficult time.

    1. How is this hiphop news? unless she is sampled in a hit rap song. I swear this site should be called black news DX. first trayvon coverage now this? GTFOHWTS!

      1. 1.) Regardless of whether it is hiphop or not, DX is paying respects to someone who was a big influence in the music world.
2.) it clearly says that her music was sampled heavily in hiphop at the end of the article

      2. Are you seriuosly questioning why HHDX would post this news and news about Trayvon? They most likely post news related to the black community because the majority of their consumers are black. You’re a jackass!

      3. If I go on espn website I don’t want to see stories about what Britney Spears did on the weekend. Bottom Line. You wanna have a hiphop site? Report on hiphop. You wanna have a black news site? report black news. Damn.

    2. Some of you bitchmade half of men didn’t get y’all chins touched enough. Either that or your momma’s wasn’t bout shit. Learn how to have some dignity, dickheads! R.I.P. Donna Summer.
