Brooklyn, New York emcee O.C. is one of the founding members of the Diggin’ In The Crates Crew (a/k/a D.I.T.C.), a 1990s collective compromised of Lord Finesse, Show (a/k/a Showbiz), A.G., Diamond D, Buckwild, Fat Joe and the late Big L. Last week, O.C. confirmed to HipHopDX that the New Yorkers are recording a follow-up to 2000’s self-titled album.
During an interview last week regarding O.C. & Apollo Brown’s Trophies album (releasing May 1), O revealed, “I don’t mean to jump the gun on this, but I had to stop writing and call you, because we just started on a new Diggin’ [In The Crates] album. We’re seven [songs] deep already. We’re a blueprint to a lot of crews – they might not say it or they might, but we are. We sat down, we aired out our grievances, argued, whatever. Show said one particular thing that struck a chord with me. He was like, ‘It’s been 15 years since [Big] L been gone. This dude would turn over in his grave if he knew that we left the legacy lingering and not did more than what we should have done. Period.”
Big L, who was tragically murdered in February 1999 was an instrumental force in the group who worked extensively on each others’ solo albums. “If he’s lookin’ down or he’s a spirit lingering around us, he’s probably like, ‘Y’all some assholes. Y’all had a legacy. Y’all gonna let it slip like that?'” With Show making the point, O.C. said that the living members of the crew came to terms on making a sophomore studio album, “We aired it out,” said O, before noting one member yet to reunite. “The only one who is [not yet] on board is [Fat Joe].”
In 2010, Fat Joe expressed interest in a reunion, telling HipHopDX, “I’ve never had an argument with Lord Finesse in my life. I’ve never had an argument with A.G., O.C., Showbiz – none of them. We’ve never had an argument in our lives, but I’m like, ‘What the fuck is up, why am I stressin’ myself?’ I’m tryin’ to get shit poppin’, but everybody got their own opinion or their own way of lookin’ at it. I guess that’s how that went down.” The announcement also comes just over a year after Showbiz declared the group a “wrap” to HipHopDX: “With D.I.T.C., [a reunion is] not gonna happen. It’s a wrap.”
O.C. added that much of D.I.T.C.’s forthcoming album is being recorded in Show’s room at HeadCourterz Studio, where the group has worked for many years.
In the last 12 years, the group has released side-projects including 2001’s Wild Life, 2008’s The Movement and O.C. & A.G.’s Oasis album in 2009.
HipHopDX will keep you updated.
I think O.C. should focus on himself instead of D.I.T.C. He has the talent to do better things. Not sure why he never blew up accordingly.
Yeah, but you gotta remember O.C. was at his best when working with the likes of Buckwild, Finesse and Showbiz … as well as Premo and Da Beatminerz. He should go back to that.
O.C. is by far the most underrated rapper of all times. Two classics in a row!!!
on behalf of all true hiphop heads:
Oh shit…
O.C. is one of the Top 5 Dead Or Alive. Picture me pre-ordering. Refreshing news even if D.I.T.C.’s solo/side projects are way better than their group shit (“Day One” aside).
wow I`d love to hear some verses from Finesse after so many years of silence
Hopefully this comes to be, man. Really.
We need dat reunion!!! C’mon Fat Joe
D.I.T.C one of the best groups ever. I’ll cop this album even if it’s a fail come back.
fat joe always been full of it. the 1st to say something nice about how artist should come together and this and that but when it comes to D.I.T.C and Terror Squad..it’s fat joe that is holding these reunions back..
Terror Squad was a wrap when pun died.
At this point… who cares. They waited too long.
I care. These guys make great music. Any chance of them making more is great.
I can’t wait for this if it ever comes to the stores & net. Finally some good artist will come together to create some good Hip Hop & not this kids bop crap we hear being put out on a daily basis.
They need to do it without fat joe. Joe thought it was cool to go to Miami and do Murder Inc Songs cuz it was good for business. DITC doesnt need Fat Joe. AG on the mic with beats from DiamonD, Show and Lord Finesse…Last but definately not least Buckwild!!!! Buckwild’s beats have always been outrageous The whole crew was organically dope, except Fat Joe. Thats just my opinion.
Well in my opinion i think fat joe “killed it” back in the 90’s. if he does get on the record he “Has To fucking bring it like he did back in the days with pun. Now before anybody says people like me are grasping onto a thread that’s used up, I just want good music not the “Gonna Get,get, get it poppin shit…honestly
Wheres terror silky black 40 oz? Get them dudes on for at least some features..
DITC without L!? I’ll give it a listen but idunno how good it’ll be
I Doubt it, D.I.T.C. jumped the shark after big l died.
Yall gotta realize that there was never an official D.I.T.C. album until Big L died.
Lord Finesse, AG, and Diamond D would give any other 3 MCs a run for their money.
Fat Joe need to do that to get some respect back in the hip hop community
I Doubt it.
Fat Hoe needs to help pun’s family and others before he get respect back.
do the album w/o fat joe. he is the weak link imo.honestly joe aint with it bcuz he truly lacks the skill of the crew. fuck his kiddie & ladies fanbase. do the album dammit!!!
The project doesn’t need Fat Joe. Just give me an album with old/unreleased Buckwild, Lord Finesse, Diamond D beats and O.C., Finesse, A.G. etc doing the vocals and I’ll be happy.
“Last week, O.C. confirmed to HipHopDX that the New Yorkers are recording a follow-up to 2000’s self-titled album.”
Wasn’t the DITC album from 2000 titled Worldwide? A lotta commenters here saying they don’t need Joe should check ‘Da Enemy’ on that album (also featured on Big L’s posthumous record on Rawkus). Regardless, this reunion is good news either way.
Another DITC album would be ill, with or without Fat Joe. But keep it 100, Joe needs to be on there. Whether or not a lot of yall realize it, Joe was down before OC, before even Big L. DITC was originally just Finesse, Diamond D and Show and AG and it branched out from there. Yeah, Joe might have went astray a little with his extended stay in Miami but Joe is the only MC from his era that got better with each album. (I already hear the arguments: “He was wack on that first album”, “Pun was writing for him”…whatever.) Like I said, with or without dude they can make a banger but to make it complete, he should be there. Just sayon’…
*sayin’
Cause joe wanted peace and quiet and got sick of the NY woe’s and stuff, so I Don’t blame him for moving down to miami, and beside joe has been in miami for years, even took pun down there
