Looking back at the HipHopDX singles this week, there were a lot of noteworthy artists to choose from. People like Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Wiz Khalifa, and even Raekwon were part of the conversation. What’s interesting is that none of these artists made our list this week. What’s up with that? Are times changing? Did people just not check the songs in time? Whatever the case may be, this week proved that not all of the popular names get the most listens. While the artists on this week’s list are all successful in their own rights, there’s still a shift happening. Change is good.

Slaughterhouse Wins, J.Cole and B.o.B. Return

Last week, Joe Budden rocked the list with two freestyles (“Stay Schemin” and “No Church In the Wild”) and Joell Ortiz came with his own “Stay Schemin.” Now, they brought the rest of the homies with them, as Slaughterhouse reached #1 with “Monsters In My Head.” The four man crew also showed up at #3 with the freestyle for “She Will.”J.Cole is the comeback kid at #2 with “Grew Up Fast” as a gift for reaching two million Twitter followers. As B.o.B.’sStrange Clouds nears its May 1st date, he drops “So Good.” That made #8 this week. Before Bobby Ray arrives, Kid Cudi’sW Z R D project with Dot Da Genius is coming February 28th, and so an early gift was a “Dose Of Dopeness” at #4.

Tyga Rises, DMX Doesn’t Dance, and Lloyd Banks Hits the Jackpot

Tyga’s album Careless World: Rise Of the Last King finally dropped this past Tuesday. After that whole debacle over an MLK sample, the likelihood of it reaching its actual date seemed slim. But, Tyga knows the value of his music to his fans and he dropped the album (peep our review). As tracks leaked, they made their way to the list. Of course his Nas and Wale collabo “Kings & Queens” returned in the same position it was last week at #6. Tyga returned at #9 with his Big Sean-assisted “I’m Gone,” and then closed out the list with fellow YMCMB member Busta Rhymes on “Potty Mouth” at #10. Somewhere in the middle? The return of DMX with some help from Machine Gun Kelly on “I Don’t Dance” at #5. Lloyd Banks even showed up with “Jackpot” at #7.
