Keith Murray. Mary J. Blige. Ervin “Magic” Johnson. These are just a few people who take the time to give their thoughts on the effects of HIV/AIDS in POZ, the first magazine ever to focus solely on the black community. In the magazine Keith Murray shares his own personal experiences on how AIDS has effected his own family.
Keith Murray’s mother and younger sister have both died due to the AIDS epidemic. “My mom was an intravenous drug user in her mid- 30’s”, he says in his interview. She was young-a young person in the streets, like me. We were always on the go, you know, living the fast life”. Keith Murray who is preparing to release his fifth solo album, “He’s Keith Murray” on Def Jam Records later this year, also spends time talking to others about the effects of AIDS including fellow inmates (when he was locked up in 1995). “The message I give is, This thing is real. Acknowledge it, respect it and protect yourself”. Louise Sloan, the special project editor for the magazine wants readers to know, “ Were all in this together. POZ is committed to providing a resource that speaks about the concerns of the community and gives out the tools need to take control of your life”. To learn more about POZ, log on to www.poz.com.
