DJ Premier Reveals His Top 25 Albums Of 2011

As he’s done for the past few years, DJ Premier has revealed his top 25 albums of the preceding year.

On his 2011 list, Primo gives props to Drake’s Take Care, Apathy’s Honkey Kong, Greneberg’s Greneberg, Random Axe’s Random Axe and a slew of others.

In a closing note posted on DJ Premier Blog (via HHNM), Primo explained why he chose certain LPs for anyone who might criticize his picks. “For all of you dumbfucks that are late or not hip to my yearly list, this is my own list of what I was bumpin’ for my enjoyment in 2011… Even though there were so fuckin’ many LPs that came out, I wish we had time to do Top 40 but fuck that… So if you don’t like my list, make your own… I ain’t mad atcha… Hate it or love it, I don’t give a fuuuuuck !!!” he wrote.

    1. Finally…………Someone with some real sense to recognize that BME>>>>WTT. Well, only the Greats will recognize cause dickriders and ass kissers will still continue to kiss ass. Only a person with an IQ below 70 will think WTT>>>BME

      1. you are the idiot. music is subjective. it’s not math where 2+2 always equals 4.if someone prefers wtt to bme it doesn’t make them an idiot. cant stand fools like you who think you wrote the book on what hip hop is

      2. So since you 100% co-sign.. you agree that Drake is better then both? Sounds like you take mad dick into the asshole son

    2. 2011 saved the best for last, which happened to be Common’s LP, ‘The Dreamer, The Believer’.

This year will see the next Slaughterhouse LP, which IMO will be hard to top.

    3. Cheeseburger hamburger 2/3 fuck you if you ain’t mention Judah Naz……I had a man crush on your weak germ azz now it’s fuck you on SOUNDGARDEN .. AFRICAN AMERICANS!!! I see why ISREALITES don’t fuck with you cheeseeburger coons!!!! WHILE CHEESEBURGER THUG NIKKAS FUCK YOUR WIFE IN THE BACK SEAT OF A PATH FINDER Judah naz is sucking dick and Preemo I hate you cause you ain’t mention your man crush . SOLAR coudve fuck me in the ass too!!!! This is so depressing …

      Sup Zee ?

    4. What about the Slim the mobster mixtape Preem?

I think it’s really really dope, better than a lot of albums.

    5. i realize everybody got their own taste, but im still surprised as FUK that Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80 isnt in there. not even in the honorable mentions….o well to each their own

      1. But 50s mixtape was on there tho, so that cant have been the reason. I just think Premier has a different way to listen to albums since no one in their right mind would say the RED Album was the best album this year lol.

    6. At last a decent list of some real music. Funny how most dueds still can’t define the difference between good music and commercialism, big up to premier for this1!!

    7. LOL. Terrible list. Undun’s only an honorable mention? RED Album’s #1? The first like 6 songs of The RED Album were good, then it was straight trash. This list fails.

    8. Just my opinion but. WTT was mad creative. I listened to every second of it… But things would throw me off. They just lack energy on they just lack energy. While it may be a top 25 I can see why its not higher. Musically it may be best. My votes going for Hell the sequal cuz I can still bump every track and listen to every sentence. The other albums on Senor Primo’s list.. a lot of em I cant judge lol but r.E.D album was ill

      1. The same way 50 prolly put a dollar worth of i-tunes credit in ur account for this LAME ass comment. Gtfoh wit ur hate u bum

    9. Take Care> Hell the Sequel?!?!?!?!!?!
Pharoahe Monch and The Roots only get honorable mentions?? You’d think with such great knowledge of hip hop, and such a great record of producing so many classic songs that Premier would have a better list.

    10. This might have been the worst year in Hip Hop History. For real.

      05. Common – The Dreamer/Believer
      04. MOP/Snowgoons – Sparta
      03. Jay Z/Kanye – Watch the Throne
      02. Wu Tang – Legendary Weapons
      01. Joell Ortiz – Free Agent

      1. yeah, 2011 was wack. there were some good albums released for sure, but the garbage far outweighed the good.

    11. No Action Bronson – Well Done? No Big L – Danger Zone? No Talib Kweli Gutter Rainbows? No Free Agent? No Undun?…I expected better than this from Premo..

      1. Free Agent was pretty wack? What about it was wack? Personally, i think it’s the best album since OB4CL2. Fire beats, dope concepts, ill metaphors, vivid stories, and catchy songs. Don’t judge it just because you may not like Joell, cuz A LOT of his shit IS wack, but this album is a fucking gem.

    12. wow you know he’s real that he put game at #1, I feel like that would have been hard for him to admit, lovin the boom bap and all. surprised to see drake where he was too. dope list although i don’t agree w/ all of it.

    13. Preemo makes some of the worst year end lists. I’d say this one is an improvement over last year though. But!! The Red Album at #1?? C’mon. Take Care made the list, but I cannot see DJ Premier listening to Take Care front to back. For someone preaching real hip hop for over 20 years, no way. Just some industry ass kissing right there. The Roots, Pharoahe and Rae all missing. Saigon’s album not even an honorable mention? Section 80 no mention. SMFH.

    14. TOP 15 ALBUMS OF 2011

      1. hey dude cmon, your list is soooooo wack, just think about it a sec.. only mainstream shit, where’s Evidence? Lamar? The Roots? Raekwon? MAN CMON.

      2. people are so stupid. anything you see posted by So Icy Boi!, YADIG, YESSIR, or other similar people and basically everyone saying how wack great stuff is and how they love gucci mane and lil wayne want the reaction your giving them their obviously trolling so don’t feed the troll

      my list :
      1) Kendrick lamare section 80
      2) the roots undun
      3) tech n9ne all 6’s & 7’s

      1. good list, but switch around Section 80 and undun and then maybe dreamer the believer/hell the sequel/greatest story never told/W.A.R. at 3

    16. fuck DJ Premier. he old & washed up. Lex Lugar is much betta den dis fake nigga. swag

his list is straight garbage… where Lil Wayne? Where Tyler? fuck dat. swag

      REAL HIP HOP LIST:

      1. Tyler, The Creator – Goblin
      2. Lil Wayne – Tha Carter IV
      3. Gucci Mane & Waka Flocka – Ferrari Byoz
      4. Lil B – I’m Gay (I’m Happy)
      5. Odd Future – 12 Odd Future Songs
      6. MellowHype – BlackenedWhite

      11. Drake – Take Care
      12. Roscoe Dash – J.U.I.C.E.
      13. Webbie – Savage Life 3
      14. Big Sean – Finally Famous
      15. Gucci Mane & V-NASTY – BAYTL

      1. your list is wats fucking garbage. every “rapper” you have on there is talentless and FUCKKINGG GARBAGE. learn wat real hiphop is.

      2. LMFAO you say his list is straight garbage and then you put up a list of absolute wack bullshit and insult Real Hip Hop at the same time. GTFO son!

      3. you all are fucking stupid, hes obviously trolling. the only one i agree with is Goblin, but definently not the #1 album of the year. Kendrick Lamar Section 80 is #1.

    17. where the fuck is juelz santana? where the fuck is ali and gipp? where the fuck is 8ball and mjg? where the fuck is gudda gudda? where the fuck is mase??

    18. ok first of all these rappers and producers need to quit with they’re top albums lists…nobody cares. secondly nobody cares what you fuck boys on here think so quit typing your list. and finally his list is shit…. you can tell he’s a backpacker

    19. Pharoahe Monch & The Roots honourable mentions? No Section.80? Drake makes it on here? No elmatic? Even as an honourable mention? Nah, you’d think Preem’s list would be harder. Pete Rock & Smif-n-Wessun’s Monumental? Median’s The Sender?

    20. love to Premier, but he’s sleeping on the young cats ready to kill the game.. Kendrick, A$AP and others MIA on his list.

    21. and we here agreed… we the people voted the same thing… GAME on top

I agree on 50’s BIG 10 too… that shit was hot!

    22. did he seriously not listen to Section.80? is RED album seriously his favorite album?

yo primo fell off what is this shit?

    23. Why are y’all crying about someone’s OPINION? Like who cares what you think. Everyone can’t agree on these types of things. It’s his personal favorite records that came out. If you don’t like it, keep it moving.

    24. I dont see kendrick, weezy, j.cole, big krit, immortal technique or asap, but i see 50 on there. Primo has that NY state of mind so i understand his list. its just an opinion. dont take it personal fam

      1. why would primo have an NY state of mind when he’s not even from ny? and immortal tech is so i don’t really get your comment

      2. Primo has lived in NY for most his albums..D&D studios is where he would record in NY.. I dont know why you wouldnt get it. carter iv would be in my top 25 but im not corny enough to make a list. maybe weezy wouldnt make my list. i listen to what i like and that is that. you can hate on what i like its cool. i aint mad at cha

    25. he got some mixtapes on here, i thought we was talking about albulms?..Red albulm is definetly the most overrated albulm from last year. It didnt have any big singles and really there was no cut dat was a classic.(WTT had Murder to Excellence, Sect 80 had high power) but to each his own so props for not caring wat others think

    26. although i disagree with Preem’s list, i can still respect it. nobody is going to have the same top 25 lists. tons of good music came out in 2011 and getting offended or upset because it doesn’t reflect your list is so childish.

    27. Lost a lotta respect for Premo after this list.. that nigga is dumb as hell. How is The Game’s album better than Phontes? Let alone anyone on that list. Just cause premo had a beat on the RED album..

    28. Yo primo…..u slippin’ bro. ‘sup with the list? no saigon, no daz, no quik…but u got DRAKE?! come on, man! I think u need 2 redo the list 4 REAL!

    29. He had to have forgotten bout section 80,how do u not have that at ur top 3?!,big ups to game red album never in my life would of thought of preemo choosing a westcoast album at number 1 over shaolin vs.wu tang, pharoahe monch war,or even commons the dreamer album which is dope.

    30. what about the roots album ? and since Primo put 50’s mixtape what about Elzhi’s Elmatic ??

instead he puts game and drake wtf ???

cocaine is a hell of a fuckin drug Primo ! get your nose off that shit

    31. STYLES P ALBUM SHITS ON MOST OF THIS LIST..PREEMO LOST HIS WAY..NIGGA WORKING WITH MAC MILLER GTFOH.. GIVE THE REAL MC’S SOME BEATS NIGGA

    32. People need to stop getting mad at opinions, have your own, voice em but stop the overspilling emotion nobody wants to see that.

I slept on alot of music in 2011, and while I plan to catch up in the next few months I won’t write a yearly list until I hear the year, lets hope 2012 comes with it.

    33. And Saigon’s “Greatest Story Never Told” is nowhere to be found. Primo’s my nigga but he fucked up off that alone.

      1. hahahaha, thank God man…I knew it. I knew Premier would NEVER EVER leave an album like that off his list. Good news.

    34. would you people stop with the this>that shit. seriously nobody cares. on a real note here relating to his actual list and not my opinion of the people on it I think its cool he listed statik selekta so many times as in every comment section people say the dude is a rip off of premo…but apparently premo has mad respect for dude and what he does.

    35. as much as i like these websites so i can hear new music, i kinda wish they didn’t exist. hip hop was a lot better when all the over the top negative fans didn’t have a place to voice their bullshit. every post on every hip hop website is seriously a majority of loser fucks without a pot to piss in saying this guy and this guy fell off. well motherfucker why don’t you get ON something to even fall off of. the guy who “fell off” is just laughing at your jealous ass comment laughing his way to the bank knowing he’ll be remembered years later. yeah people have their prime and it doesn’t last forever but all the people saying people fell off and shit. reach a fuckin prime before you talk a bunch of stupid shit. it sucks i have to write a negative comment to even get this point across.

      1. its the kids man nothing we can do about it.but its easy to get away from the bullshit because its just the internet log off.in the real world you just do you.nobody can have a opinion on what artist you listen to the dickriding mob is not waiting outside your door to fuck you up for playing a song from YOUR fav artist on your i-pod.HAHAH

    36. Hiphop is dead if you can now have a police officer and a former child T.v actor as yo favorite rappers! Lmao very weak!

    37. Typical mainstream hip-hop list…Jay-Z and Kayne, 50 cent, Drake…blah blah blah…so what they had a few hit songs with some average albums…where is my man Tech N9ne here?

      1. yes, but im sure a hip hop head like premier an artist with as big of a fan base as tech n9ne. maybe he just didn’t like the albums. welcome to strangeland was crazy, but i honestly didn’t love all 6s and 7s

    38. Carter 4 deserves to be on the list, esp since red is number one, and 50 cent and drake are on there, i know there are mad weezy haters, but weezy got talent, ima real hip hop fan, i love the 90s shit, and still will admit wayne got talent, but number one def shouldnt be games album, i would have shaolin vs wu tang above games album, and the roots undun, succes is certain, j coles album is prolly the best all round album of this past year, diabolic liar and a thief should be up there, im really suprised by this list, primo was in the 90’s and helped pioneer hip hop with the greats, 50, game, drake, they dont belong on the list, and im not sure if ghostfaces last album came out this past year, but if it did, apollo deserves to be up there, same with talib kwelis latest album, tho it coulda been a year before i forget the release date, very upset with this list

      1. How does Wayne have talent? He has like 5 good verses a year. Anybody can make just five good verses in one year. Plus he has no flow, can’t freestyle or battle rap or make good diss tracks, he sounds awful, and was outshined by just about every guest feature on the Carter IV (Shyne and Cory Gunz aside)

      2. Every song waynes made the last couple of years he says pussy atleast once and his lines don’t make sense, he has no talent

    39. DJ Premier is leading dj for homosexual hip-hop. Fuck him… look at this list?

      25. Large Professor & Neek The Exotic Still On The Hustle- A rap album for nerds.
      24. Edo G A Face In The Crowd- Homosexual rap
      23. Ill Bill & Vinnie Paz Heavy Metal Kings- Very legit underground rap album. BUY THIS!
      22. Greneberg Greneberg- Fag
      21. Action Bronson & Statik Selektah Well Done- This lame ass tried to be on the Mistletoe song by the great Justin Bieber and then name his album by a lame Tyga mixtape. Nuff said.
      20. Apathy Honkey Kong- Good album, one of the few good underground rappers remaining. Fuck Fort Minor though.
      19. The Away Team Scars And Stripes- Sounds like a lame indie rock band.
      18. Kanye West & Jay-Z Watch The Throne- Only gays and teenage girls who think Niggas in Paris was a good song bought this bullshit.
      17. Torae For The Record- Who?
      16. Bumpy Knuckles & Statik Selektah Lyrical Workout- In other terms, kids who live in their moms basement listen to this.
      15. Common The Dreamer, The Believer- Faggot Sweet Happy Feet Hip-Pop record at its finest.
      14. Maffew Ragazino Sr. Rhyme Pays- No comment? Wait who is this lame?
      13. Bad Meets Evil Hell: The Sequel- Yet they have one of the gayest pop record with Bruno Mars. Fuck Eminem and Royce is garbage too.
      12. Drake Take Care- Is this even a rap album let alone Hip-Hop record? Go back to Canada.
      11. Statik Selektah Population Control- Never heard it
      10. Random Axe Random Axe- Never heard it
      09. Malcolm And Martin Life Doesnt Frighten Me- Never heard it but the artist sound gay to me.
      08. Royce da 59 Success Is Certain- Whoever bought this is some gay laughterhouse fan who can’t get pussy
      07. Phonte Charity Starts At Home- Probably one of the most boring rap albums of all time. How can anyone like this trash?
      06. 50 Cent The Big 10- Anyone who thinks 50 Cent is even a decent rap deserves to be shot 9 times. Fuck 50 Cent.
      05. Reks R.E.K.S.- HAHAHAHAHAHA
      04. M.O.P. & Snowgoons Sparta- M.O.P. made a song with LFO and LFO murked them. Nuff said.
      03. Evidence Cats & Dogs- Any album involving that faggot Slug is bound to be horrible.
      02. 9th Wonder The Wonder Years- More like the Blunder Years as no one liked or cared about this album except homos.
      01. Game The R.E.D. Album- Decent album but I hated the song with Drake and Wale. Those niggaz suck.

Best albums were Gucci Mane/V-Nasty- BAYTL, Gucci Mane/Waka Flocka Flame- Ferrari Boyz, and Justin Bieber- Under the Mistletoe. REAL HIP-HOP ALBUMS!

    40. DJ Premier may be one of the best producers ever but his opinion on the best albums of 2011 sucks! No Kendrick Lamar, Section.80??? Are you kidding me Premier?? The Game at number 1??? The Game sucks more dick than anybody, unreal.

      1. Let me also state that The Game doesn’t only suck dick in a way that he is garbage at rapping but he probably actually sucks dick which is why he always sounds so angry in all of his songs because the dick that was in his ass the night before he hit the studio was just a little to big for The Game’s shitty ass, real talk.

      1. Are you serious? Do you realize who made this list? He has more credibility than days you’ve been on this earth.

      2. He may have credibility but his opinion on the top albums is absurd and a bunch of bullshit, lets be honest.

    41. Finally, a dude that really knows and understands music has the proper appreciation for Red album. 9th Wonder thought Red was bananas too by the way.. That shit was bangin and showed that Game pushes the envelope with lyrical content, song structure and allowing the “common fan” to feel closer to the artist with songs like Cali dream(u actually hear real footage of his daughter being born) and the EPIC Ricky. Plus, Dre speaking straight facts on his life history was a nice addition. Was easily the top album of 2011 imo. Good shit Primo, ur cut on the album(born in the trap) is PURE FIRE!

      1. I cannot recall a worse/more dissapointing album than the The P.I.N.K. album. Game allowed the common fans to see how well he could mimic whatever MC was featured on each song – poorly. I like Game but that shit was fucking trash.

    42. legendary weapons, monumental, black & brown, undun, shaolin vs wu-tang, and “are you going to eat that”(aesop, and rob sonic). all off the list? wtf premo!

    43. Well, the good thing is that he didn’t mentioned Dwayne’s album, pardon me, Wayne’s album. But seriously, where is section 80??

    44. i love premo forever but he really burnt me with this list….how the fuck you not gonna have kendrick lamar….fuck ur top 25 Section.80 should be in anyones top 3 this year….how you gonna put Game number 1 then leave out the kid who had the most talked about verse on Games album…..oh i get it Premo produced that track on Games album….ohhhh i get theres always a catch

    45. I LOVE GANGSTARR BUT IS PREMO AN IGNORANT IDIOT OR WHAT ? WHERE THE FUCK IS YELAWOLF’S RADIOACTIVE ?

FUCK OUTTA HERE PREMO–THE LIST IS AS SHITTY AS IT WAS IN 2010

NO RECOVERY ON IT ? SMH… IGNORANT AND STUPID PRODUCER

    46. Wats wit the hype around kendrick?. the nigga’s whack. he got no concepts of rhyme schemes, discipline, and has obviously never heard of a metaphor. He’s a simple rapper. I mean don’t get me wrong, i definitely don’t agree with preemo’s list, i don’t fuck with any album on that list, but kendrick lamar is wack. the only list he deserves to be on is most overrated rappers of all time. He would do well on that list. Personally, Shabazz Palaces – Black up is the best album of the year. All else pales.

      1. yo dude , your crazy , this nigga is straight fucking fire ! you obviously dont know what is a metaphore is you say that he never heard of a metaphor ahah !

    47. Most of the albums listed premier had a hand in. considering his ego, im not surprised he rated them.

      1. Man, Premier practically IS hip hop. If he had a hand in the projects, that means they were probably very good!! That was a good list minus a couple albums. THousand times better than DX’s list!

    48. Premo! You just blatantly forgot one of the illest real hip hop albums to come out this year, shit, in the last 5 years. Saigon’s album! Just Blaze production?!!?! HONESTLY, I THINK PREMIER JUST PLAIN FORGOT. Nobody’s perfect, everyone makes mistakes.

    49. BTW, PRemo! You got WAAAAAYYY too much Statik Selektah in your list. That dude is the definition of average. He’s like turning into a Kanye wannabe or something; production-wise that is. He started off with hard beats. Now he’s makin some elevator smooth jazz bullshit. Dude sucks dick.

    50. I love Preemp and always check his list, but how the hell is Kendrick Lamar’s Section 80 not on here????? Argghhh. I know it’s his list, but damn. That album was so far above so much of what came out. I’m feelin the Bumpy Knuckles and Action Bronson on the list. Lots of good sh&t on the list

    51. I can do it too…but just a top 15
      1,000,000. Dr. Dre- Detox
      15. Yelawolf- Radioactive
      14. Ill Bill & Vinnie Paz- Heavy Metal Kings
      13. Game- R.E.D. Album
      12. Wale- Ambition
      11. J. Cole- The Sideline Story
      10. Jay-Z/Kanye- Watch the Throne
      9. Evidence- Cats & Dogs
      8. Common- Dreamer/Believer
      7. Bad Meets Evil- Hell: The Sequel
      6. Apathy- Honky Kong
      5. Brotha Lynch Hung- Coathanga Strangla
      4. Phonte- Charity Starts at Home
      3. Tech N9ne- All 6’s & 7’s
      2. Saigon- The Greatest Story Never Told
      1. Roots- Undun

    52. Premier is your typical old hiphop head. He’s clearly prejudiced against Southern rap and things that rap can only come from NYC or LA. This guy and hit songs are completely disjoint. He hasn’t produced a good beat in years. None of the singles he produces make the radio or go platinum. He is way past his prime. Meanwhile, YMCMB is the future of hip hop.

      1. not coming off disrespectful but what southern rap is coming out with good hip hop… unless jay electronica put something out that i missed

    53. yo i dont agree really with the whole list (section 80 gota be there nd others) but FINALLY!!!!!! SOMEONE RECOGNIZE THE RED ALBUM AS BEST ALBUM OF THA YEAR

    54. fuck section 80 u’all need to get Kendricks dick outta ur mouth then think….that album was whack except for that Hiii Power n RR Era track…..fuck the rest

    55. i dnt know how you niggas can say All 6’s n 7’s can be on that list….it was a fucking whack album….no replay value at all…Tech is a great rapper but his albums are mediocre….

      1. Huge fuckin co-sign to Dockevoc. I said it in 2010 and It came to pass, elzhi’s mixtape was going to be the best thing released in 2011.

    56. this list is biased based on the production of the albums mentioned, which is why game shit is number one cuz premo produced the best track from that album. how does kendrick lamar or j cole not make the list and 50 does. gtfoh! j cole is pure talent and dre, snoop, and game just passed the torch to kendrick personally. tell this nigga premo to listen to the lyrics and not just the beats.

    57. U cant hate on Premier he listed the top 25 by albums by the songs in the albums that he produced the city which was the a good song and was listed as his number one.

4 kayne jayz watch the throne
5 royce 5’9 success is certain

      3. Dude on here must be a comedian, I just cant stop laughing….shit list is mad funny. Must say that that Goblin album was entertaining

    61. The BIG 10 at nr.6 and that was a mixtape. 50 Cent forever on top! And for all of yall hatin on this list, Premo knows much more than u about hiphop. G-UNITT

    62. STOP WITH THIS STUPID LISTS!!! TOP 25? MAYBE TOP 100 OF THE YEAR – than you can put all of the years album.

Preemo stick to producin’. Game album was mediocre commercial stuff, sound more like a soundtrack. I’m very dissapointed in Preemo taste.

    63. DJ Quik’s “The Book of David” or Median’s “The Sender” for me are the best albums not just for 2011 but the last 5 or 6 years.

    64. He only put the games album number one beacause he produced a track on there, which is wack. Preemo you showing your colors dog, we see who you rockin with and it ain’t the streets dog, get ya money regardless but don’t act like you still have the standards you had in 1998 nigga, you know the real niggas gonna speak on the BS, thats why you had to let it be known you don’t give a fuck

PS Forbezdvd is doin an interview with Gusmo, former gangstarr affiliate, it’s supposed to shed some light on the whole situation between Guru and Premier… Check for it!!

      1. I respect your point of view, but Born In The Trap had a great beat, and it`s a pretty solid track. I appreciate Premo a lot for what he does: great music, great beats.

    65. Yall should understand that by posting the 25 fav. albums of one of the realest producers of all time it’s a nice way to make you look for some albums… It’s not Premo’s top 25 . It’s Premo’s and DXmoney.talks …Now fuck you

    66. 4real?? No section 80??? I Agree to dissagree
still nuff respect 4 the legendary Premo.

M.O.P. on there is the biggest contrast, that Sparta album with Snowgoons is the Bomb, if you let it grow on you it even gets better!!!

    67. 5 : Reef the Lost Cauze and Snowgoons : Your Favourite MC
      4 : Outerspace : My brother’s keeper
      3 : MOP and Snowgoons : Sparta
      2 : Action Bronson : Well Done
1 : Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz : Heavy Metal Kings

    68. I think I would swap out Drake with Saigon’s album. I can’t believe Primo doesnt have Saigon in the top 25. Plus Kendrick Lamar and J Cole were better than Watch The Throne!

    69. its his list yo.. any of you fags that complain are just some ignorant fucks..
      my list has to be:
      1. Cole World
      2. Finally Famous
      3. Watch The Throne
      4. Take care
      5. Bad Meets Evil
      6. Radioactive
      7. Blue Slide Park
      8. The RED Album
      9. Rolling Papers
      10. The Carter IV

A little out of order and a little mainstream but thats what I like idgaf… i didnt include mixtapes

      1. You can voice whatever you want. You can also listen to fags harmonize over music and call it hip hop if you like. But there ain’t a straight man alive over the age of 15 that owns more than one album off this list other than WTT and BME.

    70. This list is TERRIBLE!!! Why did you even post this list. I respect Premier as a producer, but this list is just nonsense.

    71. garbage list, where’s

      The Roots
      Elzhi
      K-Rino
      Blu
      Cunninglinguists
      Outterspace
      Snowgoons Lord Lhus Savage Brothers
      Canibus

typical mainstream dick riding as usual

    72. if you have lil b in your top, then you need to find a gun, load it, cock it, put it to your temple and pull the trigger. you are a cancer to hiphop and you must be removed for hiphop to have any chance of survival in the near future.

    73. ur ignorant as fuck man. Premier is not only from Texas but has southern artists signed to his label, dummy. What about the beat he did for Bun B’s album?

    74. if he didn’t have a placement on game’s album , he woulda never ranked it number one , and i don’t know what 50’s EP (not LP) is doing there , you put 50 and didn’t put krs fuck that

    75. LOOK, IM PRETTY SURE HIS LIST iS NOT IN ANY ORDER. AND HE CLARIFIED ON TWITTER THAT HE THOuGHT SAIGONS ALBUM WAS IN 2010. Prob just plain forgot about Roots album.

    76. holy shitttt first time i checked it i went kinda fast and i didn’t see drake’s album , HOLY FUCK , your gone put drake’s album , this dickriding

    77. It must hhave been hard coming up with this list since there weren’t many blockbuster albums out last year. The Red Album #1? I realize opinions vary, but is Primo high?

    78. IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS IT’S BACKWARDS V

    79. Smh @ this old ass nigga. They say your hearing is the first thing to go when you get old, and now i beleive it.

    80. This has been a TERRIBLE year for hip hop. Not ONE album has come out that I can consider even good. The RED album certainly wasn’t good, but it was better than A LOT of albums. Phonte’s album was boring trash. Kendrick Lamar is a mediocre-to-average rapper. J Cole is generic pop shit. Take Care aint even a hip hop album. Evidence cant really rap. 9th Wonder fell off a while ago. REKS is mediocrity. Statik Selektah makes elevator music. When I think hip hop over the last couple years, especially 2011, I just see wack shit everywhere – underground AND mainstream.

      1. this has been one the greatest years ever for hiphop..almost every major act had a releaase. I think either you really dont like hiphop, or your just a hating asshole man. That Phonte joint was timeless btw

      2. U must be out ur fuckin mind.2011 was a great year for HIp hop, in fact since 2005 it must be the next best year for hip hop,and im not a new school head, but look at how many album releases we had.Sure, there wasnt any ”great album” in whole but it was a heat of dope mixtapes/singles /new artists etc.Next year listen closer

      3. you lost all of your credibility when you called kendrick lamar mediocre. phonte’s album was dope, coles album wasnt great but it was good. take care was a great album if you didnt mind the r&b side to it. section 80 waas album of the year, and reks is incredible… have you not heard 25th hour? gtfo

    81. aaaayyyy!! Glad to see Preemo has my top LP of the year High up on his list! That 9th wonder joint was a straight classic. R.E.D. was great too but becomes less and less stellar as you listen. And he acknowledges WTT was not the greatest thing to ever happen to hiphop

    82. no j cole? that album was great…smh..take care is a rnb album…i like game but cole world was waaay better…and big ten is a great mixtape but does not deserve to be ahead of watch the throne… 1 watch the throne,2 cole world, 3 bad meets evil

    83. U people shouldnt be bagging last year was the best Hip-Hop there hasnt been so many hiphop releases since 05.

    84. Also Premier The big 10 over Success Is Certain sure Royce isnt the world’s best rapper but he went hard and it was dope. The Big 10 was just soft mainstream rap garbage.

    85. Its obvious he only list the rappers that actually acknowledge him or associate themselves with him. Game no. 1? Watch the Throne 18? negro shutup. Lost the little respect I did have for you. Now go spin records for the next hip hop awards you lame.

    86. the big 10 soft? you must not listen to jcole , jay z ,all of young money, eminem, all of good music because they released waaaaay more “oft mainstream” bullshit…smh…smh and i dont even like some that i mention

    87. ohhhhh god this is painful, just painful. For a third year in a row its a bullshit list. Game at number 1???? wtf man, The Roots not even on the list? i think HipHopDX need to stop getting premier to do these lists seriously, every year his top 10 is bad

    88. Its “HIS” list of what “HE” listened too & what “HE” enjoyed.
Not “YOU” pack of faggots. Grab a brain.

      1. yeah I don’t understand why other people’s opinions are criticized so heavily on this site…. they’re just someone elses thoughts.

    89. You lames is priceless. Bitching about a legendary DJ’s fucking list of albums THAT HE LIKED THIS YEAR! Damn, it aint like the article was called Primo’s top 25 bloggers choice albums list. But damn, for a homie from H Town his bias for the East Coast continues in 2012…
Universally agreed that Purp N Patron AND The Hangover were better than RED Album.
      Shit TM103>RED

    90. ****HIP-HOP HISTORY FACTS****
Question: Who was the 1st male west coast artist that Russell Simmons ever signed to Def Jam?

      Answer: Mel-low (Compton, CA)
Mel-low’s music video “Blaze It Up” feat Redman was the first music video by a Def Jam artist to ever get banned from being played on BET and MTV. Although Russell Simmons tried so hard to convince MTV and BET to play the video they both continued to refuse to air it saying that that although it was a very well produced video the content was a bit too much. But the “BLAZE IT UP” music video still went on to become an underground hit!!! The video went on to become the #1 video in America on THE BOX (“The Box” was the largest call-in request music video show in America at the time) and it held the top spot for a whopping 8 weeks straight, holding off other artist like Dr Dre, Michael Jackson, and many other from the top spot.

The BLAZE IT UP video also has a short clip of Orlando Anderson aka “Baby Lane” of the South Side Crips Orlando Anderson has been linked as the killer of Tupac. You can see Orlando in the BLAZE IT UP video at min 1:48 – 1:51, Orlando is squatting down in the middle of the dice game wearing a stripe shirt, holding a fist full of money while singing the hook).

Here’s a link to BLAZE IT UP and a few more Mel-low videos

    94. Premo always has an interesting top 25 list. Good to see he’s keeping his tastes diverse, and all that. Diverse tastes makes for better people, in my eyes. Or at least, so I think. So. Probably….

      1. Im a Game fan but I agree R.E.D. in my opinion is not number one it’s dope still but not what it could have been but plus you have to remember all the free and dope music he released before then so he deserves some credit heres’ my top 5 i feel is fair and most people will agree with

        2. The Greatest Story Never Told
