Jay-Z recently spoke with CNN, touching on the financial condition of the economy and weighing in on the Occupy Wall Street movement. During the interview, he stated that he wouldn’t mind paying more taxes as long as there was transparency on where the funds were being allocated.
“I think me personally, I wouldn’t mind paying more taxes if it went to things that really mattered,” he said. “If it went to education and people in poverty, if it went to the right things, I wouldn’t mind. I think it should be clearly defined where all the money is being allocated.”
He elaborated by explaining that he would be open to paying more taxes if the money was going to the right causes, and that most people in the one percent would comply. “Again, with my answer, I was pretty much in the middle of both sides because you can understand paying so much for taxes and then things not improving. You’re like, where’s everything going to? It should be open accounting of where everything’s going to. I’m sure if it was for health care and education and to help people, I think most people with a conscience and some integrity and moral fiber wouldn’t have any problem paying more taxes.”
Hov also applauded the Occupy Wall Street movement, stating that it’s an opportunity for a generation to be heard. He said that typically localized conversations have the chance to be heard on a global scale and that protestors are “really getting to recognize the power of your voice.”
“I think it’s saying a lot all over the world that people can get their voice out there and fight for a better world. I support all sorts of movements. There are so many different fights that we must take on – education and health care and poverty – there are so many different fights that we must take on. It’s good that young people are getting out and getting their voice heard, especially in this time of social media where that argument on the block or that thing that takes place in a small place or a small neighborhood is being viewed globally. You’re really getting to recognize the power of your voice.”

point is the Economy is crappy still. Looks like it will stay this way for another 10 years, and that is if all these women stop having all these babies needing a job to raise them. yeah it’s the truth think about it, that way niggas can spend their money on shit that cycles the system
You prove your stupidity every time you post. I rarely use such words, but I’m afraid you are a bitch.
I gotta agree with Teddy.
hoodrat logic
(blank stare)
Wow. I think I have a feeling what you meant to say and all.
Actually… I really don’t.
Wow.
It’s always amusing when millionaires/billionaires say they would love to pay more taxes to help those in need. Do they not understand that they can walk up to the areas in need and open their checkbooks theirselves without the government being the middleman?
listen thought dog ^^^ the only reason why the get the GOVT involved is because they wanna use the money they give away as a tax write off so early next year when its time to pay taxes they will get a waiver
That makes no sense at all…So they want to pay more taxes in order to pay less taxes next year? Can I have what you’re smoking?
do u know anything about what’s going right now with wall street?
He said he doesn’t mind paying more taxes (which is a lie) which means that he knows he is not paying alot of taxes compared to his annual income.. Why do you think him and kanye threw all those free concerts, gave back money to communities and fundraisers in Africa that’s called a tax write off that’s why it’s important to keep your recite and stubs for everything you pay for out your pocket: example one jay-z made $37 mil in 2011 and jay-z owes 5.3mil in taxes= 31.7 million jay -z also gave away over 5.3million dollars in free shows, venues, features, fundraisers, his club/ basketball team and watever else he has so all those taxes that where owed where waived because of his tax write off.. Now on the other hand if jay-z did an interview saying he minds paying extra taxes and doesn’t want to because the GOVT keeps it all for themselves he would most likely get a call from IRS
That’s not the point I’m getting at here. I’m talking about all millionaires/billionaires not just rappers. You hear people like Warren Buffet/Jay-z and others saying how they would love to be taxed more to help the country but would like to know where the tax money goes. If any of these people truly wanted to help the people struggling they can drive from their house to a ghetto/trailer park or whatever and directly hand money to the people that need it. If you really want to help you don’t care about whether it’s a tax write off or any shit like that….You just go and do it without asking for anything in return.
My point is to educate you why they use the GOVT as da middle man.. Now on another note: how do you know there not GIVIN money to trailer parks, how do you know there not GIVIN money to the ghettos/ projects how do you know there not doing any of that do you think da media knows everything dese rappers/billionaires are doin with dey money? I know 1 thing for sure if I was jay and I jus gave away 5 mill to help africa’s water supply in2011 I would not pay no 5 mill to America’s corrupt GOVT for taxes if I jus gave away free money in 2011
One more thing if I knew jay-z / Warren buffet was comin to my hood/projects or trailer park to hand out free money I would rob his ass just like any other Nigga or cracka would do in poverty
yo thought dog answer dis what would u do? Give away 5mil in taxes to Americas GOVT (which means u don’t know where it’s going) or give away 5 million to your home town and call it a tax write off?
You basically answered my question with your “I’d rob a nigga trying to help my neighborhood” answer. If that’s still the thought process of people in poverty then the millionaires/billionaires should be buying bombs to wipeout every ghetto/trailer park/project in America so the rest of us that finished school, read books, worked our way up can proceed with life. And if the only thing you’re thinking about when you give away something in good nature is a tax write off then you should just not even bother.
u still don’t get it do you? Da moral of da article is jay z would rather give his money away to his clubs/ fund raisers instead of GIVIN da money away by paying more taxes to America GOVT because he doesn’t know where all the money for the taxes go thought dog learn how to read between da lines there not talking about good nature and receiving money back in return a tax write off doesn’t mean ur getting a check back its just like a reciept that shows you gave away something in good nature
It’s pointless to explain how good people work to a Floridian. That state is filled with souless shallow people.
souless huh? That’s exactly why Florida was the first free independent black country in America, so souless the black Seminole(free blacks) ran out Europeans and fought in war so souless that europeans came to Florida in search for the fountain of youth know your facts and accept the truth Florida has more soul and culture than any place in America Florida was divided into east and west florida the first city(st.Augustine ) and etc. Andre 3000 is originally from Florida he has the most soul in hip hop go look up all my info and learn something if I was so souless I wouldn’t be trying to help and educated u on real African American culture that they don’t teach u at tour community college
CAMEL PIG IS A FUCKIN PIG.
THAT IS THE MORALE OF THE ARTICLE.
FUCK THAT PIG.
10,000 TIMES THE MONEY OF THE AVERAGE MAN RIGHT?
ISN’T EVEN GOING TO LIVE TWICE AS LONG FUCK THAT SUCKA DUCK PIG.
@thought dog u contradicted urself how u tryna explain how good ppl work and u called me shallow an souless? Do you really think dese rich billionaires are really good ppl? Most of dem snaked there way to the top especially jay-z don’t u know that it’s harder for a rich man to enter heaven. A rich man can enter heaven but he has to work way more harder than the average man. Go to your nearest bible and read the story about the poor man lazarous

“During his retirement, Jay-Z also became involved in philanthropic activity. On August 9, 2006, he met with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan at the organization’s headquarters in New York. The rapper pledged to use his upcoming world tour to raise awareness of and combat global water shortage. Already on the look-out for a way to, in his own words, “become helpful”, he had been made aware of this issue during a visit to Africa. The effort took place in partnership with the UN, as well as MTV, which produced a documentary entitled Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life, first airing in November 2006.
Jay-Z also, along with Sean “Diddy” Combs, pledged USD 1 million to the American Red Cross’ relief effort after Hurricane Katrina.[61] Jay-Z stated his support for Kanye West after the latter’s outburst against President Bush during a live Katrina charity telethon. He also addressed the issue of the Katrina disaster, and the government’s response, in his song “Minority Report”.”
“I put dollars on mine, ask Columbine
When the Twin Towers dropped, I was the first in line
Donating proceeds off every ticket sold”
Cool out, Willy. You’re riding dick.
It’s called free promotion.
The UN is a puppet.
That is all.
The Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation + that car from the Otis video is/has been sold and all the profits are going/went towards helping the people in the African drought. Furthermore, it’s his money, he’s not obligated to help anybody if he doesn’t want to.
AYE I JUST FOUND OUT THAT ANDRE 3k is originally from the Miami fl metro area and he is half Seminole Indian(the first free blacks in the country) no wonder why he is the best mc in the game.. Respond if u didn’t think he just murdered jay-z on that I do track
fuk eva.. as rich as this n1gga is he had the occupy all streets tees printed up and didnt give a dime to the movement and the shirts sold out asap. saying that ill also say this i dont believe black ppl that have “made it” must give back to their community. if you put in the work to get where you are then you can do whateva u please with your paper…just my opinion
Even if the community’s the only reason they even “made it” in the 1st place?? Without the community/fans Jay would just be Shawn.
So you don’t think that white people never pulled each other up to get in better positions, and actually managed to keep a firm grip on everything in the country. There’s no success without economic strenght of a community, blacks have virtually nothing after we built it with ur blood sweat and tears.
@tank wow^^^ and your proud to even post DAT garbage and y do u say we as in we built this country u just said blacks blood sweat and tears built this country where does WE come from? U must be a descendant of a (Florida cracker go look up what dat means) b4 u respond
The architects of this new world foster the conditions that pattern the mind set of its citizens. It was set up this way to perpetuate itself; the people cannot be a threat (to the system) if they are at each other’s throat on every level.
Few look to or within self. Accountability is scarce and where it exists it is totally imbalanced. In the worse cases the victims of the system become the perpetrators on a smaller scale; they hate themselves.
$500 million is small potatoes compared to the true elite that run and reap the benefits from this system. Everyone else is just a pawn. If you are real and not a govt plant you should ask yourself what is fueling your hatred for one man.
Are your estrogen levels safe for you to be considered a male? You display a lot of female tendencies – in the next man’s business gossiping like a batch. Where is the tuff talk about this system that has claimed the lives of millions?
I’m calling fake on all you Internet tuff guys and QWERTY thugs. Keep the next man’s name out your mouth and just do you. If Jay is in the wrong God will deal with him. You should worry about your own broke asses; he ain’t takin no money out your pocket.
At the end of the day you can try to make yourself feel better about being a loser but there ain’t nothing righteous about being poor. I ain’t worried if I ruffled a few of you bird ass-ninja’s feathers – what are you going to do about it except squawk?
FUCK YOU YOU STUPID PIG,
THINKING EVERYBODY IS POOR.
PEOPLE GOT MONEY MOTHERFUCKER FUCK YOU
@anonymous
My point exactly. You really could do better than that. If you get better you do better or stay on the bottom.
You came off real emotional – not indicative of someone with the tact or self discipline to get serious money and keep it. I threw a rock in a crowd and you opened your mouth.
That is strategy – this is chess not checkers. Obey the rules to the game – you are out of pocket, out classed and out of luck – give up now.
(nods in acknowledgement of some real rap)
I see your pimp hand. And it is strong.
I do think it’s a lot of cats that hate on this man just to hate.
Me, personally… He’s a gimmick when it comes to music and he’s self absorbed and a rider of “what’s/who’s hot”. He’s the worst. As a business entity, he’s done a whole lot of right.
Whether he snaked a gang of cats to get where he is, he must answer to God for that. And he most definitely will.
But hey… I’m not going to say what he needs to spend his money or what he does with it.
He’s still wack as an artist though.
fuck this pig.
nobody is hating this pig.
its called freedom.
we want this pig up the fuck outta here.
fuck camel pig.
Jay-Z wasn’t born rich; he knows the struggles other people go through. We can sit and complain about what one man hasn’t done, when really the government has a better chance of changing things. A rapper can only do but so much before people immediately start criticizing him (as shown by the comments). Honestly, can we really complain and be upset when we aren’t doing anything ourselves? It doesn’t exactly help the movement…
Why do you keep typing in the same bullshit.
People have money, not everybody is poor, and plenty of people are doing the right thing.
This cockawear pig in the article can go fuck himself.
You really should never hope for the government to do anything…Look how well that worked in the USSR and currently in China. The people of the country should be helping each other.
I don’t listen to this nigga because this nigga don’t talk no reality, he sell little nigga’s their material dreams…Read a fucking book!!
exactly.
fuck this pig
Fuk Jay-Z and his Rocawear cloths and Mason cock sucking. He dont give a fuk bout the 99%. Killuminati.
exactly, great post.
FUCK THIS PIG.
The whole “illuminati” bullshit is as lame as the dougie now. Grow up.
fuck you, fuckin liar.
Did I really see somebody down there say we have a better chance if the gov’t changes things? LMAO
That’s what got us here in the first place buddy, the GOVERMENT. You guys need to LOG OFF and READ BOOKS.
Fear God.
Pray.
Pray some more.
Seek enlightenment.
Strive for perfection.
That’s it.
Depending on the government to get you out is like depending on the car to get you from point a to point b without gas and tires.
@ Mr Flamboyant
I pop my collar to ya playa. BTW 40 water is one the greats in my book. Jay admittedly compromised his artistry for financial gain. That being said IMO his most charismatic work was done in the ’90s.
I strive to be a critical thinker so I can see both sides of the equation. Artists get screwed by the industry so you either get pimped or pimp the game. I study the patterns of successful people as well because there is a science to success. Jay exemplifies this by following the 48 Laws.
Brown and Black people especialy have to hustle to get ahead because the target is still on our backs. I see this in the eyes of the enemy everyday. I keep him close and so called friends at a distance.
We have a tradition of passing down wisdom even in our depraved condition – real hustlers know this. So I find it as interesting as it is disturbing that all this energy is being wasted on rejecting wisdom and progression – that is backwards hustling. I detect the enemy’s hand in this.
I detest weak men. We don’t act like men anymore. If you check your emotions which is the definition of being a man you can play past the smoke screens and stay two steps ahead.
All these soft and emotional males are subject to manipulation like cattle being led to slaughter. Which is a valid analogy because we don’t behave much differently than animals anymore. We even place our own heads in the guillotine. The game is deep.
@ Anonymous and others like you
I’m going to be here for a while. I don’t mind chopping up game with real men. Be forewarned you half a female little boys will get severely chastised. Yes that last sentence implies my superiority. Prove otherwise.
Good post G
Finally some real talk
see how stupid some people can be..jay z was talk realism and some fools pop off smh
Jay z talks FAKENESS not realness…. we se through his lies, if you got of his dick you could se too!!!
jay-z? that man doesnt know shit about economics. why ask HIM?
“man was not made to lead himself.”
pray to Jehovah. build your mind faster
I really cant understand the thinking of a lot of ppl that post here. Whether you like him or not Jay came from some one of the roughest parts of Brooklyn and through hustle, some luck, and yes being smart has become one of the richest black entertainer/businessmen ever.
These free mason, illumanti arguments make no sense. Not one person knows that post here if he is or isn’t, because not one of the posters i am 1000% knows him.
As far as taxes they should be more transparent period. Whether the rich get taxed more or not tax dollars should be able to be tracked.
Whether you like him or not he is part of the first generation of hip hop multi-millionaires, just like the now old white rich from slave times that families are billionaires now.
I know now there will be ppl saying I am dick riding, or maybe my grammar isn’t perfect etc, etc. I don’t care, i know this that whether you will admit it or not if you had the chance to change positions 99.9% of you would rather be in Jay position than your own.
FUCK THIS PIG.
THIS PIG IS A PIECE OF SHIT.
99.9% MY ASS
I WOULD NEVER BE THIS PIECE OF SHIT IN MY ENTIRE FUCKIN LIFE FOR BILLIONS AND TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND FUCKING BUFFET UP THE ASS.
FUCK THIS FUCKING PIG.
WOULD NEVER EVER WANT TO BE ANYTHING LIKE HIM.
FUCK THIS PIG TOTAL PIECE OF SHIT.
FUCK THIS DUMB PIG.
10,000 TIMES THE MONEY AS A REGULAR PERSON ISN’T EVEN GOING TO LIVE TWICE AS LONG.
FUCKING SUCKER.
