Ladybug Mecca Denies Digable Planets Reunion, Says She Is Not Involved

Taking a page from the Wu-Tang Clan, Digable Planets has formed like Voltron.

Original members Butterfly, Ladybug Mecca, and Cee Knowledge (formerly known as Doodlebug), have big plans for 2012, including a tour and album.

The group attained platinum status in 1993 with their album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space), and earned a Grammy Award for the song “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat).”

Digable Planets’ last release was the 1994 album Blowout Comb.

Further details on the tour and album are not available as of press time.

UPDATE: In the wake of this month’s earlier reports, a Ladybug Mecca spokesperson has released a statement refuting claims that Digable Planets has reunited. While Cee Knowledge and Ish are indeed touring, the female emcee said the following, “Though a dialog has started about possible plans in the future, nothing has been contracted yet. All reports of Digable Planets, and/or Ladybug Mecca’s appearance with them, are false and inaccurate.”

    1. This better be real, none of that Tribe shit. And DX keep us posted, I’ll be mad if I find out they performed close to me and I missed it.

    2. they had better reunite and come out with a 15+ track album full of goodness. THey can get the ROots to produce. Hopefully have guests like black thought, mos def, krs one, talib kweli, common..

      1. Not accusing you of being a Drake fan, but if you are and you think this shit is soft, that’s hilarious.

These guys aren’t soft, they have style. Jazz Rap (for the lack of a better term) was just one of many good genres of hip-hop back in the 90’s. Can’t listen to G shit all the time, diversify yourself!

And yeah, Ladybug could get it for days.

    3. “Blowout Comb” is a classic. Nothing but solid hiphop from beginning to end. Too bad that album gets slept on.

    4. Blowout Comb is a classic for sure. Top 50 hip hop album for me easily. Definitely got slept on. Hopefully this will get people to wake up.

    5. Ya’ll sleep on Blowout Comb. That is still one of my top 10 albums of hip-hop ever. This group was amazing. Just over shadowed by the Mobb Deep’s, Ruff Ryder, Bad Boy, Rocafella movements. Glad to see they still in it cause this shit nowadays makes me wanna kill myself. Yep, its that bad.

      1. Smh. Some of y’all really need to do some research on how this game works. They’re STILL eating off that first song. The song is a worldwide groove, not a block anthem, so it can get placement on any commercial, TV show or movie soundtrack, radio or club playlist while they can book a show anywhere on the planet while some artist cuts them a check for sample clearance.

        Since ’93.

Please feel free to explain how they would be broke. Money mis-management? Maybe.

    6. “Butterfly, Ladybug Mecca, and Cee Knowledge are hitting the stage and studio once again.”

Like I said, hip hop will be just fine.

Yeah!!!!!!!! like i be telling u real hiphop artists are coming in force. if u notice all the legends making they way slowly onto the music charts more n more. can’t wait for the new albulm.

    8. honestly, there are too many crews who came and went and left the fans empty. too much talent and creativity, then gone into the nite. Digable is one of those crews. I don’t know what was behind their breakup after only 3 years and 2 albums, but it’s been over 15 years now. please let the past be the past, build on the future, and give the heads something valuable in hip-hop to look forward to. Reachin’ & Blowout Comb are 2 of the best hip-hop albums to come down the pipeline in the past 25 years. Ish, Mecca, & Cee Know: LET’S GET IT POPPIN!
