Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Hopefully everyone who celebrated had a great day with family and friends. As usual, the internet didn’t sleep and artists still made their rounds. While Drake’s reign on the list ended (he isn’t even a Top 10 single at all this week!), we still managed to keep him in the conversation on HipHopDX (much to the pleasure of some and annoyance to others). That being said, this week is a total mix of tracks. While it was a short holiday week, alot of familiar faces managed to sneak on the list. Check out who made the cut, and shout out to everyone who contributed to the Top Singles’ diversity by checking out tracks from more than one artist.
Jeezy Is Friends With Jay-Z and Andre3000, Kid Cudi With Dot Da Genius
As Thug Motivation 103 quickly approaches (we hope), the CTE godfather Young Jeezy came through with the track “I Do,” which topped our singles chart this week. The song is arguably Jeezy’s most anticipated cut off TM:103, as it features none other than Jay-Z and Andre3000. It seems like 3000 is really showing up for the party these days. He was present on Drake’s album version of “The Real Her” with Lil Wayne (off Take Care), and he was also part of Tha Carter IVinterludes that everyone seemed to love (with or without Weezy on them). We received some good news (to some) that Kid Cudi and producer Dot Da Genius will collaborate on a project called W Z R D at the top of 2012. While some of those track have leaked, including the song “Brake,” the tracks that made our list this week were throwbacks from the Cudi vaults. The Cudster’s track “Mr. K.I.D.” hit #6 this week, back-to-back with another Cudi track “Rain” in at #7. Cudi is stepping into the future, but it’s clear that the fans still love the past.
T.I. Is a Pyro, Kendrick Lamar and Busta Rhymes Have Rigamortus
None of that is true, but the titles of their tracks might suggest that. T.I. was toying with some ideas for album titles and finally landed on Trouble Man. As soon as that news hit, another T.I. single was the chaser. “Pyro,” produced by Two Band Geeks is the track and it made the #2 spot on the Singles chart. The King of the South has been working non-stop since he left prison. He has a book out, a new album coming, and more than likely some movie roles. Fellow rappers take note: T.I. is getting his James Brown work ethic going. Another hard worker is Kendrick Lamar. K.Dot took over 2011 and on his “Rigamortus Remix” he recruits Young Money’s resident big brother. Yes, Busta Rhymes signed to YMCMB, but still sends a thorough nod to the West by hooking Kendrick up on “Rigamortus,” which made #4 this week. While Busta shows no signs of retiring any time soon, it’s good to know the veteran rapper has the sportsmanship (and common sense) to work with newer artists who are slowly creeping up on everyone’s radar. That’s Hip Hop teamwork.
