GZA Re-Signs To Babygrande Records, New Solo Album For 2012

Wu-Tang Clan co-founder GZA (p/k/a The Genius) has re-signed to his label, Babygrande Records. HipHopDX was told by the label of this agreement late last night. Babygrande’s founder and CEO Chuck Wilson released the following statement, “We have a fantastic relationship with GZA, and we are honored to have the opportunity to continue to work with him.”

GZA, a Brooklyn, New York native, released his most recent solo album, 2008’s Pro Tools, on Babygrande/Think Differently. Throughout his 20-year recording career, GZA’s been signed to Cold Chillin’ Records, MCA Records, Geffen Records and Angeles Records.

GZA’s seventh album is expected next year. Babygrande did not say if it will be the reported sequel to GZA’s sophomore album, Liquid Swords II: Return of the Shadowboxer.

      1. So what, alot of rappers hate their labels cause they dont understand how to read record contracts, Canibus in particular, has something negative to say about everyone he ever worked for….

If you stand there and say to yourself “Everyone I ever did buisness with fucked up”, the likely truth is that you yourself are the fuck up

    1. Pro Tools sucked, but GZA still has my respect, he’s done some classic records, Liquid Swords, Beneath the Surface & Grandmasters are all personal favorites of mine

Looking forward to this, hopefully its the LS2 album we’ve been hearing about, with RZA executive producing

      1. “Pro Tools” was decent, “Legend Of The Liquid Sword” was his worst album. “Beneath The Surface” was average, could’ve been much better.

      2. Beneath the Surface has 2 decent tracks on it, go back and check it out. I put it in a couple weeks ago and almost threw it out my window it was so horrible…Those fucking “you don’t have to be there to be there” and job offering skits are so fucking wack…I don’t know how the GZA made such wack shit

    2. Definite purchase. GZA never releases anything wack and I like what M.O.P. is doing with Babygrande. That shit is hot to death

      1. GZA is pretty solid but everybody in the clan is pretty constint expect for Cappadonna (Did anyone hear The Pilgramge)?

      1. It’s not all about lyrics, it’s music and not spoken word. Ghostface shits all over GZA. GZA has incredible lyrics, but his voice and delivery is fucking terrible.

    3. Looking forward to it. Hopefully we’ll get alot of production from the RZA, but i’m sure it’ll be dope otherwise. GZA is one of the best emcees out there.

    4. It ain’t gonna be LS2 coz RZA has fucked off to make his film, just hope GZA can put together some decent producers for once. Dude could easily have been top 5 if he hadn’t been rapping on shitty beats for the last decade (Minus Grandmasters)

      1. I agree with your comments, and will add that if this is not RZA produced, it’s really not a sequel to Liquid Swords. RZA is the reason why the Wu-solo projects were so hot first time out the box: Tical, Ironman, Liquid Swords, Only Built for Cuban Links, and Return to the 36 Chambers. As good as the lyrics are on these albums, they are fueled by RZA’s beats and influence.

    5. I hope he and RZA connect for LS2 after this album, wots the meaning of crime is it criminals robbin innocent muthafukas everytime
