Jay-Z & Kanye West Score First Number One Single Off “Watch The Throne”

Following Watch the Throne’s release in August 2011, Jay-Z and Kanye West have scored their first number one single off the album.

According to Billboard.com’s The Juice, “Niggas in Paris” lodges at the top spot on this week’s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, bumping Lil Wayne and Drake’s “She Will” from the highest position.

Back in September, the duo neared the top of the chart with “Otis,” which peaked at No. 2. “Niggas in Paris” marks Jay-Z’s ninth and Kanye’s fifth song to top the chart.

    1. That’s crazy. When I first heard the album I felt this song was just album filler material. Guess that’s why I’m not a studio exec!

      1. This was definitely the most radio friendly on the CD. It probly came down to a choice between this and “Illest Motherfucker Alive” and they went with this one since it’s shorter and has the break at the end. Both songs are pretty similar and have the same “colors” in them.

      2. No Illest alive is way better lyrically and has a much better beat.
And you cmon gotta have it? That song is nothing like this one and is like 500x better..

      1. OOOOHHHH.THERE NO WAY THAT JAY/YE WILL EVER BE EVER TO FILL THE POSITION THAT LIL GAYNE AND FAKE HAS HELD FOR A LONG TIME. THEY ALWAYS BE FIRST IN LINE FOR FREE BLOWJOB FROM ME, THE YOUNG MONEY BUTTLICKER. YYAAAADDIIIIIGGGGG IN MY ASSS!!!!

    2. BY THE WAY THESE TWO SUPPOSED “GIANTS” OF THE GAME CAN’T EVEN GET HITS OFF WHAT WAS SUPPOSEDLY SUPPOSED TO BE THE BIGGEST ALBUM OF YEAR… FACE IT NIGGAS WATCH THE THRONE FLOPPED..

      1. You’re in denial. Don’t worry, everything’s going to be okay. Wayne will land on his feet. He has an advanced knowledge of cash/money and will thrive in a district manager role at K-Mart. Feeling better now? Have some juice.

      2. watch the throne flopped? how do you figure?…they went platinum and sold out a stadium tour. what are you a retard faggot bitch?

      3. This nigga YADIG done bump his wobbly ass head. Jay and Ye are running the tour circuit and radio. Besides Weezy’s sales of The Carter IV are suspect to me. I mean come on, Ye and Jay safeguarded the album till it release while most people could download the leaked version 2 week prior to it release. I don’t know anyone who actually bout the album. Move the balls away from your face and you could see that.

    3. @Yadig u dick suckin ass bitch. wtt flopped? they went platinum in a recession u dumb fuck. ur father would have been better off just leaving u as a cum stain. i wish u was dead u dumb fag.

      YMCMB + Roc Nation bitches

      1. bro you are coverd in waynes cum stains. You fuckin love his cock or somthing. Wayne is lord?? If wayne, kanye , and Jay ever asked you if they could circle jerk around you and blow in your face one at a time you would prolly cream your pants. faggot

    4. Steven J. Horowitz is such a stupid spoiled jewish writer. He writes alot for this site, and he has nothing to do with Hip-Hop. Go fuck yourself with your father’s investments you circumsized as a man m/f.

      1. Shit niggas in paris is a wack song with simple lyrics and and a average beat…. I still don’t understand why kanye is praised as a “lyricist” compare watch the throne to bad meets evil’s hell the sequel.. Em and royce are far ahead in terms of lyricism, but of course people feed in to the commercial crap and don’t appreciate good lyricism. Compare the song welcome to hell to… Otis compare the song fast lane to.. Niggas in paris. Em and royce are above these dudes

      2. No one is debating that Em and Royce are nice lyrically. However, lyrics are not the only aspect of being an artist. If that were the case all these battle rappers would have deals. Em and Royce album though very good, alot of the time were just a bunch of punchlines that lacked connection to the song or anything around it. Kanye and Jay missed the mark on some of their songs but substance wise and the point of the album was clear; as such the lyrics followed suit.

    5. this album was dope…otis was the most radio friendly but the sample was wack/genius. kanye rides that line hard. thats what makes him great. he will take it to the next level with no regrets. take it or leave it….ALMOST every rapper wanna be kanye now. he is the most consistent.
all you that love wayne…i know yall grew up with him.. you saw bling bling..you were probably the same age as him or younger. if you are older you dont fuck with him like that. i wont knock him. he is getting better with each album. thats how it should be

    6. Niggas In Paris has a very radio friendly beat, I know this cause there were teenage white girls in my school who know little about hip-hop or even what the song was called, but they knew the beat, and were able to mouth it. And the song just goes hard, the bridge at the end, the hook, it’s catchy AF. Gotta Have It is dope too, and maybe could be a hit, but Illest MOtherfucker Alive is too slow-paced, and raw-spitting like for the radio

    7. yes he is, YADIG is a faggot groupie young money whore who is obviously illiterate and lives in the suburbs. A typical Wayne fan. Go listen to some Eric B and Rakim, nigga.

    8. Whoever says that this album flopped OBVIOUSLY does not know hip-hop. WTT was a brilliant, almost flawless album. It may not be the dopest lyrically, but the track listing and content was right on point. And if you can’t understand that, lick my butthole. If you hate on this comment, you may as well suck Drake’s cock while jerking Wacka Flocka off.

      1. lol.. good lookin jj… just production-wise and the way the songs were put together (the way they rode the beats) i honestly sat and thought and couldnt think (excluding beyonce song and who gon stop me) of a better album.. but like you said, thats jus my opinon….

    9. DON’T FOOL YASELVES! WATCH THE THRONE WAS EXPECTED TO DO MUCH BIGGER NUMBERS THAN IT’S DOING NOW!! THIS ALBUM WAS HYPED UP LIKE IT WAS THE NEXT GREAT EVENT IN MUSIC.. AND THAT WEAK ASS ALBUM JUST CAME AND WENT.

      1. real talk… Carter 4 had hits. 6’7, how to love, john and she will. That album had almost the same momentum as C3. Lil Wayne make them beg, he is on top! YMCMB the life

    10. Move Weezy’s balls away from your face and you could see how great this album was. It didn’t what number they were actually suppose to do. I say Weezy’s number are phony…Look at Carter 3, Everyone was waiting on that and look at the number it had. It had way more publicity into in and was the better album. Its not adding up.

      1. BELIEVE IT OR NOT WAYNE HAD A HUGE SMASH WITH “HOW TO LOVE” THAT SHIT GOT MAD PLAY… PLUS HE TIMED THE RELEASE OF HIS ALBUM PERFECTLY BUT HAVING IT HIT ITUNES DIRECTLY FOLLOWING UP HIS PERFORMANCE AT THE VMA’S

    11. ILL KEEP IT REAL THERE WERE LIKE 3 GOOD JOINTS ON THE ALBUM: NO CHURCH IN THE WILD, NEW DAY, AND MURDER TO EXCELLENCE.. THE REST WAS BORING EURO-TRASH!

      1. YADIG you areright!!!

YMCMB for life, check the billboards, blogs headline, itunes, magazine coves, featires, awards.. We everywhere like air!!!!

    12. Watch The Throne was cool but this year I feel like all the major rap releases this year failed to live up to expectations. J. Cole’s album was cool but I feel like his mixtape material was better. There’s nothing that’s giving me that epic feeling like when I first hear Lupe’s Food & Liquor, or Kanye West’s College Dropout. No one is really hitting that next level, play it for years, never get tired of albums these days.

      1. You answered your own question, your high expectations. Once the music didn’t match the media hype and comment drivel, you saw it for what it really was. WTT had no buzz, except why it had not leaked yet. The album is an arena-stadium album, made for touring, not for iPods.

      2. i think the best mainstream release of the year has been R.E.D. which was seriously overlooked cuz ppl have lost interest in the Game. But it was a 4/5 star album and probly the closest he’ll get to a masterpeice since The Documentary

    13. Lets keep it real… Lil Wayne humbled Jay and Kanye. I mean if you call your album Watch the Throne and someone sells almost double your numbers? thats some dethroning shit lol. And on the real Wayne’s album was more hip hop than wwt… as a result Wayne took control of hip hop. Believe or not hip hop is Wayne World. Even J cole went to Weezy’s Carter 4 release.. he knows the deal. JayZ had his run an now he following. Its life Jay Z fan just take it. Peace

      1. boy how old are u? u sound fucking stupid…first ymcmb bought those albums nigga…dont believe me? watch the dramatic decline in album sells each week…wayne album had nooooo real concept, i liked carter 4 but better than wtt? u dumb as a muthafucka. wayne need to humble drake with his wanna be thug ass fuckouttahere

      2. gelly Y U Mad fam… no need for insulting one another. just state your opinion straight like a man you claim to be. How do you know they bought the albums? Even WWT’s sales drastically fell after first week. Its Lil wayne’s marketing scheme, “1 mil frist week”… Then after first week its whatever and its working good. i mean C4 was number 1 for weeks, it even dethrone Cole World back down. And i agree C4 had no concept but who said good albums needs a concept. If you are a Jay fan, im sorry to say… but BOW DOWN AND KISS THE RING! #ymcmb

    14. Where was WTT hyped? For an album with no real mainstream songs, and two older artists, going platinum is impressive. Clearly this album was more an experiment than anything else.

      1. Homie, Jay and Kanye release that album as a power move to crash Wayne’s Carter 4. They were all out for the kill… but unforunately Lil Wayne is now a powerhouse. He even dissed Jay on that album.. which close the book. And by the way Jadakiss, Andre 3k, Bun, Nas, Tech9, Shyne all cosigned. Read between the line… wayne the new leader. love it or not

    15. to say the album had one video(wayne dropped 3)…no radio friendly singles(how to love, 6’7″, john), no promotion except for private listening parties, word of mouth and the historic “no leak”…this is a milestone. this is something drake should have done when he had the hype that he failed to live up to and wayne couldve done, being the number one artist in hip hop. plus these are “old” rappers still being revalant while the game is continuing to become younger and even more commercial.

      1. WTT had promotions but not the the usual videos and staff.. Jay and Kanye thought they were bigger than they actually are, thats why they didnt go all out. But their sales was a reality check that their time is passing. Age is no excuse if you call your album Watch the Throne.

    16. this is kinda impressive but it’s Jay-Z & Kanye..This albulm was so hyped (even more than C4) cuz its 2 superstars instead of 1. But props for only having really one single (h.a.m, otis was only out for like a month)on the radio and going platinum and #1 w/dis song

    17. Can someone explain how a sold out tour and a platinum album is a flop? Them tour tickets ain’t cheap either. Maybe it’s just your expectations that weren’t met, but it looks like they’re doing quite well.

    18. And what hype? The hype was you had to wait for it. And if that got you to buy the album instead of the music, you’ve learned you media lesson of the day.

    19. The WTT album really has grown on me. At first listen, I was like “Meh” but after listening to it a few more times, I can say that this is ranging from good to great. Not classic because Lift Off and Who Gon Stop Me are the two songs I skip, but everything else is pretty dope. And nice seeing N*ggas in Paris hit #1 on the chart. “That shit cray!”

      1. Man, I agree. At first the only joints I was really listening to were Otis and Welcome to the Jungle. I remember thinking how wack Niggaz In Paris was, but then me and my homies kept on humming the tune and before we knew it, we were bumping that joint. The only joints I still don’t feel are h.a.m and why i love you. I really don’t know what the hell they were thinking putting together the latter, utter noise pollution right there. But in all, the shit grew on me, and honestly am beginning to understand the madness into the changing beats and bars. It reminded me of Big Puns Yeeeah baby album, not to compare the two, but more in the sense that the first times I played it, I was like wtf? Then before I knew it, I was enjoying it…Other expamples are EPMD’s Unfinished Business, U gods golden arms, masta killas no said date to name a few. whew…

      2. I don’t really care for Lift Off either but Who Gon Stop Me is my shiiit! I love the energy of that song. Its actually one of my favs. Now I don’t like Made In America that much. I see where they where goin with that but its kind of a snoozer. Overall GREAT album.

    20. Lyrically, WTT was subpar. Musically, it was absolutely AMAZING. The production and beats exceeded the bars. And I never understood basing the best emcee on albums sold instead of who got rawer rhymes. Because anybody with common Hip-Hop knowledge knows that Wayne ain’t better than Jigga. Not on flow, delivery, bar structure, lyricism, punchlines, NOTHING.

      The end.

      1. sub par? Cam McCoy acting real reckless – stuntmen…c’mon dude, the lyrics were not over amazing, but they were much better than sub-par.

      2. They were subpar for what Kanye & Jay-Z could’ve produced in my opinion. Of course, their subpar is still pretty damn good compared to the rest of the game.

      1. IS IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THERE TO BE MORE THAN ONE GOOD ALBUM? I DON’T UNDERTSAND WHY PPL GOT TO COMPARE AND MAKE EVERYTHING A COMPETITION EITHER WAY BOTH DUO ALBUMS ARE GOOD FRIG MAN YOU PPL STOP GIVE IT UP, YOU ARE THE REASON HIPHOP IS DYING BECAUSE YOU ON MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THERE’S ONE GOOD ALBUM A YEAR GET ALIFE. AND SINCE YOU KNOW WHATS BETTER THAN CAN I HEAR YOUR PLATINUM OR GOLD ALBUM PLEASE?

      2. LOL @ ur humble opinion, but the charts says opposite of everything you posted. reality check nigga! ha, ha. stop fucking hating on succuss cuz ur favorite artist aren’t winning. if you love someone else’s music so much you support it regardless if it’s not #1, stop hating & dick riding online.

      3. FUCK MOUTH ALWAYS COMPARING EMINEM WITH EVERYBODY !!! I AM SURE THAT YOU ARE EMINEM’S BITCH BOY AND A FAG BASTARD !

      4. @Dem Fools

First, to the bastard using the charts to compare, WTT is a full length LP with two big names on it. BME is an EP with Em and ?

Lighters, the second single of BME is already 3million on sales and reached #4 on the hot 100. Niggas in Paris is yet to even crack the top 20. Niggas in paris is #1 on R&B/Hip Hop Charts, not the entire singles chart.

Secondly, Em’s last Cd, recovery, sold more than WTT + MBDTF +BP3 + AG combined.

    22. this post is about niggaz in paris and jay z and kanye west….what does it have to do with bad meets evil? i swear hiphopdx fans are the reason hiphop is dying. Yal just hate on anything even when it is uncalled for.. I love watch the throne, Hell the sequel, C4, Cole World, ambition and probably Take Care coz i appreciate hiphop as a whole not like you hating ass niggaz!

    23. I dnt mean no disrespect to Jay or Ye but their album had a little bit of a let down cuz MBDTF & TBP3 were better imo…WTT was still the third best hip-hop release this year…RED>Cole World>WTT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>C”whack”4

      1. WTT squats on every Jay-Z release post black album. It isn’t better than MBDTF, but that album is a classic. What did you expect? Jesus rapping over Zues’ production? lol

    24. niggas in paris is garbage.

lol Nasty isn’t even on the billboard that how you know that shit has a lot of flaws

    25. YA’LL QUIT HATIN ON ME AND WAYNE CAUSE THERES NOTHIN I’D LOVE MORE THAN TO BE BEHIND THAT ASS GOIN CRAZY WHILE SUCKIN DRAKES DICK AT THE SAME TIME AND HAVING BABY PEE ON US, AND DON’T NOBODY CARE BOUT THAT CLOWN BITCH NICKI WITH THAT FAKE ASS OF HERS

    26. Some of ya’ll dudes really disappointing me. Idk if ya’ll hate just because or ya’ll just don’t appreciate great art when you hear it, but the shit really pisses me off. No I don’t expect everyone to have the same taste, and if you don’t like Jay-Z or Ye, thats cool. But all you so called “fans” who are complaing about WTT have you heads so far up Reasonable Doubt and College Dropout’s asses that you fail to recognize the gift these two have given us.

1st of all, JAY-Z and KANYe DID NOT HAVE TO DO THIS. They both have more money than they know what to do with. Both of their legacies are set in stone. They made this album for the love, and I think for artist on their level to do that is dope as fuck.

2nd of all, they DID NOT have to do anything innovative. They could have just remade that ‘Blueprint’ sound or some other old style that we’ve already grown accustom to. If they did, even if it was dope, it would have been more of a novelty project than a legit album, and it would have been quickly forgotten. They could have easily done some shit like that, but instead they took the time to create a project that is a unique addition to both of their catalouges, which is awesome. Hov is worth half a billion $. He doesn’t have to touch on black on black crime. Ye has been the top producer in the game for years. He doesnt have to experiment with dubstep. But they did. 4 the love.

As a fan, I honestly feel like I’m being spoiled. Are the lyrics on par with American Gangster? Is the production better than MBDTF? Does it matter? Who else does shit like this? Then on top of that they throw this tour together, which happens to be the dopest show I’ve ever been to in my life. They deserve every bit of the success they have.

Is WTT a classic? Who knows. All I know is I’ll damn sure remember it like it was.

Long live Niggas In Paris @ #1.

    27. yo all trippin or wt , listen to MR CARTER in which wayne said ” i didnt know you would prefer me ” this man dreamed of jay now he wana compete him , dont pay the same taxes so back off…his albums sales r among who , suburbs kids who bang wayne in their tiny cars n think they bad mofos..lol …he can sell more but cant reach or buy his class ….all old school listeners know jay would kill him in battle , lyrically and production wise WTT was tight than Waynes album….kiss his ring , kiss my ass hahahahhhha
