Who knew a Pop single could have such an effect on Hip Hop? Then again, that’s not a recent phenomenon, but it is for someone like Mac Miller, who once again topped our list this week. The young emcee quickly slid from Wiz Khalifa’s shadow to become one of Rap’s major players in a fairly short amaount of time. His presence on Maroon 5’s official “Moves Like Jagger” remix is indicative of the power Hip Hop has on Pop, and also a clear sign of the long career he has ahead of him. But let’s not make this all about Mac Mill, as we had alot to check out this week from some of our favorite artists. Take a look.
Maybach Music Group and Young Money Take the Lead
It was a big week for both camps on the top singles list. Rick Ross jumped right below Mac Miller at #2 with “I Love My Bitches.” Rawse the Bawse is gearing for the release of his new album God Forgives, I Don’t, and has since been popping up everywhere, especially on our list. He arrived again at #4 on the list alongside Nicki Minaj for “You the Boss” plus he closed out the list at #10 with fellow MMG member Wale on “Tats On My Arm.” Speaking of Nicki Minaj, the Nickster repped thoroughly for YMCMB by returning with two big features. Nicki showed up on the aforementioned “You the Boss,” but she also assisted Big Sean on the “Dance (A$$) Remix” at #5. The track is pretty racy and nothing like the other song Nicki appeared on (Willow Smith’s “Fireball”). Maybe this means Nicki will be getting her rap fix again. We’ll have to wait and see.
Method Man Gets Tricked By Sour Patch Kids, T.I. Treats Us To a New Track
This week Method Man dropped a video for a track called “World Gone Sour.” The video details Meth with some friends, and one of them tore open a bag of Sour Patch Kids; then the cangy goes wild. It mimics the commercials and the motto “First they’re sour, then they’re sweet.” But these Kids are far from sweet (check out the video to see what happens). The audio to the track made #3 on our list this week. After teasing us last week with a snippet to “I’m Flexin,” T.I. comes through with the full version featuring (and produced by) Big K.R.I.T. The song was supposed to mark T.I.’s big comeback. However, around the same time “I’m Flexin” arrived, so did three other T.I. featured tracks: Young Jeezy’s “F.A.M.E.,” Future’s “Magic Remix,” and 2Chainz’ “Spend It Remix.” Hopefully Tip will drop as many songs as our friend 50 Cent, who keeps cranking out the Street King Energy tracks. This week his Track #9 (also titled “Shady Murder”) reached #7. His former friend Game dropped off an unreleased version of his “Dreams” at #8, and Game’s friend Kendrick Lamar got on #9 with “Cloud 10.” What a week.
