Outkast Reportedly Headed To Epic Records For Group Deal

Former Island/Def Jam Chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid has resurfaced at both Epic Records and as a judge on the upcoming Fox talent search show “The X-Factor.” According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Reid is wasting no time bringing in some of his former LaFace/Jive acts over to his new home at Epic.

“L.A. Reid has been busy erasing the company’s tarnished image and rebuilding its roster, which will soon include Outkast and Ciara, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter,” said Shirley Halperin of The Hollywod Reporter’s website, THR.com. “Reid has a long history with both acts, who were originally signed to his LaFace Records.”

Reid was instrumental in initially signing Outkast to the LaFace label he cofounded with Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, as well as later signing Ciara to Jive. Both acts have expressed frustration with Jive since Reid’s departure with Outkast’s Big Boi accusing Jive of not clearing his Andre 3000 feature for “Lookin’ For Ya.” Additionally, Ciara took to Facebook back in February and told fans “I pray that my label will release me…it’s at that point where I feel we don’t share the same views on who I am as an artist.”

Big Boi previously stated individual solo albums as well as an Outkast album were on deck for 2012. And if he and Andre 3000 are able to facilitate a move from Arista to Epic with Reid, it would it would seem to greatly improve the odds of making that happen.

      1. Another little boy lil gayne fan. I just can’t believe how these kids have no taste at all in music, in real hip hop. Like I said Outkast is 100 times better lyricist than lil gayne in their sleep!

    1. i dont undertsnad how these labels control these artists so tightly..you signed them, let them make music and release it to the fans who support them. Dont tailor thier music to cater to the masses. And if you know or suspect a label will treat you as such, dont sign.

    2. WOW. thank god!

      OUTKAST IS EVERLASTING!!

they will show these mainstream amatuers how to make REAL mindblowing music again.

we need this for the game.

      1. Bruh did you listen to Big Boi’s last album. No Lupe, he had label politics and still came all the way correct with Luscious Left Foot. When Outkast falls off the earth will spin in the other direction. Even if it was on some pop shit it would crap all over the rest of the game. Chitlin Pimp and 3 Stacks together again, man just don’t promise what you can’t deliver.

    3. is bin 2 long for a new outkast lp,

HOPEFULLY they dont go techno and go for a club sound

i thought roses and hey ya was sik as fuk, and there older albums, i would mind if there singles had the same sound as them 2 tracks but i just cba if they try doin sum 2011 futuristic music.

    4. Are they gonna release andre 3000’s solo album under epic or jive another good question only andre 3000 can answer that question but cant wait for solos and the group album from the greatest rap duo all time!!!!

      1. For sure you must be a little teenage boy to disrespect the great duo Outkast and think that lil gayne is better. Big Boi & Andre 3000 are 100 times better lyricist then lil gayne in their sleep.

    5. lawd knows nobody is capable of coming out with anything. whether underground or over it all sucks. there was only one decent song off watch the throne. and game and lil had nothing. so if they did come out banging trust me they have no competion. i hope it works out.

    6. I always liked them, became more of fan over the years, but if these two go in on a new album, it just might be the dopest album in years. That Big Boi album last year was very good.
I feel like they got the talent and originality that just might make the next great hip hop album. Cuz I don’t picture them trying to follow any trends or anything they have always been ground breaking, genre-bending

    7. i have no idea how these niggas haven’t been able to get it together and drop a new album. last one went DIAMOND. but. that was almost 10 years ago. i have a feeling it’s due to andre 3000 being an impossible personality. big boi has been active. andre is fucking the money up. rap went to shit on their watch. hip hop needs eminem to make music. hip hop needs jay-z albums, nas albums, and outkast albums. it keeps the standard higher. if you’re not dead, you have no excuse. killer mike was saying this recently. outkast owes the culture music. period.

    8. LMAO i posted that lil wayne comment, sooo many people got mad, which is a good thing. Course Outkast is better then wayne, just felt like being a troll
