Last week had a few pleasant surprises on the mixtape front. Drake’s sort of protege The Weeknd dropped his highly anticipated mixtape “Thursday” appropriately on Thursday. The mix included a Drizzy cameo on the smooth cut “The Zone” and had another few gems on the brief albeit punchy 9-track mix. In addition, Fool’s Gold’s own Danny Brown offered up the half mixtape/half free album titled “XXX” (check out the review). In addition, once Wale reached one million followers, he offered up his own mixtape “The Eleven One Eleven Theory” (with the track “Chain Music” attached) and Big K.R.I.T. brought some heat of his own with the “Last King 2” mixtape. Just as the weekend started, Consequence came to the rescue with the long-awaited “Movies On Demand 3” (check out “The Kumate” and “Mr. RapFIx” ).

This week GLC delivers his now anticipated “I Know Who You Pimped Last Summer,” which was slated for release last week but jumps a week to (check your watches) right about now. In addition, Curren$y aka Spitta Andretti will deliver “Verde Terrace” (August 23rd) presented by the Gangsta Grillz kingpin DJ Drama. With “Boss Of All Bosses 3” spinning into a straight to retail mixtape on October 5th, Cam’ron plans to tide fans over with “Family Ties Vol. 1” this week (August 25th) sans sidekick Vado.

A week later, Kyle Rapps opens the week with “On Air,” which has already delivered the KRS-One and Homeboy Sandman assisted “Love Love 2” along with “Universe Traveler” with Talib Kweli. Diamond District’s Uptown XO will drop “Monumental II” on August 30th, and The-Dream will bring his sort of mixtape “Terius Nash Est.1977.” Finally, Boss Hogg Outlawz alum Killa Kyleon will drop “Candy Paints & Texas Plates.” Killa’s been on the freestyle grind, with his own versions of “Who Shot Ya” and “Ballin.”
