RZA Discusses Producing For Jay-Z & Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne”

With a production credit on “New Day” off of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s impending Watch the Throne, RZA explains that his is “really honored” to land a placement on the highly anticipated LP. Speaking with Rolling Stone, the RZArector stated that working with the Hip Hop heavyweights was a treat.

“I’m really honored to be a part of the project,” he said. “These two are obviously very capable in their own right, so to include me in this classic project is a testament of how much respect we share for one another.”

The Wu-Tang Clan swordsman was on the set of his directorial debut The Man with the Iron Fists when he got the call from ‘Ye to send over some beats.

“Kanye asked me to send tracks while they were in Australia,” he continued. “I just thought I would send some shit that would be rugged. I know they can find the poppy, hip-hop places, but I wanted to send them some real edgy shit. Apparently they thought they were great – Kanye said, ‘Send some more of that Wu shit!'”

Though RZA is yet to hear the finished album, he’s more than excited to hear what the two have created. “In the past, when Jay-Z did Best of Both Worlds with R. Kelly, I thought it was a great album but the campaign went south because of personalities,” he said. “With this project, it’s the best of many worlds. These two guys have a great chemistry and a great relationship. I’m excited.”

    1. i sure hope its rugged, that track he co-produced on kanye’s last album was sick. you could smell the rza influence all over that one. here’s hoping it goes harder than tracks like our dreams, still a great track but i want some different shit now rza. a little taste of the old dusty rugged razor sharp days wouldn’t be so bad…

      1. did you really think dark fantasy was sick? i thought it was ok, that beat was bumping but then that course comes in??? just fucking ruined the whole song “can we get much higher????” fuck that was gay

    2. RZArector in your sector. One of few tracks I look forward to on the album. I hope Kanye West haven’t added some poppy hook on it though, like on Dark Fantasy.

      1. that course / hook ruined the whole fucking song, i cant even listen to that shit

like seriously i dont understand how someone could ruin a good song with a hook soooo bad

can we get much higher? get the fuck outta here

      2. Wait, what? Is the hook on Dark Fantasy “soooo bad” because it’s a woman singing? GTFOH, that shit is great music. U just gotta learn the difference between good rap and great hip-hop.

      3. it has nothing to do with a woman singing, i didnt even know it was a woman, i thought it was some homo with a high pitches voice

im saying that hook doesnt go with the beat rza made and kanye fucking ruined that song

      1. I used to think the same thing….then I heard El-P. Sorry to present this as a one-liner, but I used to say the exact same thing. Cannibal Ox ‘The Cold Vein’ is the best produced hiphop album I have ever heard.

      2. I can’t even argue with that, even though I got Premier, Pete Rock, J Dilla, and Q-Tip (yes, Q-Tip: see every Tribe album) and a few others right up there with him

      3. @Ben

But RZA has more than one album of classic beats.
        1. Enter the Wu-Tang
        2. Tical
        3. Return to the 36 Chambers
        4. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
        5. Liquid Swords
        6. Ironman
        7. Wu-Tang Forever

RZA is the greatest for sure

      4. Thats definitely a fair argument but El-P does have a whole catalog. I just see the Can Ox album as the shining masterpiece. But El’s solo albums (Fantastic Damage, Ill Sleep When youre Dead) and a few other defjux ones are on another plane than everything I have ever listened to. I really reeealy love Rza and have listened to him nearly 20 years, and it wasnt until a I got put onto El-P that I said Rza wasnt my favorite ever.

    3. Bitch, the RZA
      I stand close to walls
      Like number 4 the lizard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. lol check out this guys facebook he loves eminem so much, profiles pictures and all dat

this guy would drink the sweat from shadys crack

      2. nobody wants eminem beats. eminem barely even raps over his own beats. you can tell all of your facebook friends that people replied to your dumbass comment on a website though.

      3. Ohhhh, so THAT’S what STAN looks like? I thought he drove off a bridge with his girlfriend in the trunk.. Lol…

But seriously Jerm, don’t listen to hip-hop anymore, it’s not for you if you really believe what you posted

      4. I would take Em over RZA lyrically, but RZA towers over Eminem in producing, not even close, its like those mainstream F**** who compare Soulja Boy to Pac, no contest!…Hell the Sequel was fire though, and if you call that pop then you dont know what you’re talking about

      5. I like RZA an emcee over em. Sunshower,Tragedy, and 12 jewels goes on a level that may be too profound for most mc’s.

      1. Nah… alright, maybe that was OTT. But he has produced some dope tracks:
        Visionz
        Beneath the Surface
That track off Supreme Clientele i cant remember now

      1. cosign.

i prefer THE RZA to PRIMO. especially on the “CUBAN LINX…..” and “LIQUID SWORDZ” albums.

    4. Fuck this guy, what has he ever accomplished? This wanna be chinese fuck would never be a legend. DJ Khalid is infite times better than this dinosaur. Ye,and West should’ve had “We Da Best” to do that shit!!!!!!! I’m outs

      1. He had a unique sound but so many people raped his style that it became like the norm. DJ Khalid has been grindin for a minute and I do respect him as an producer but when RZA is on his shit he hits the target well. Just listen to Raekwon surgical gloves…..

      2. People this guy is a troll, just look at his nickname.

Anyway, RZA is one of my favorite producers, if not my very favorite, so I’m happy for him.

    5. J Dilla, RZA, Preem, Dr Dre, Pete Rock are my top 5. that wu shit is classic, can’t wait to hear this album
