D’Angelo is back working on his long-delayed third album, says The Roots’ ?uestlove.
According to the drummer and producer, D’Angelo’s follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo will feature collaborations with bassist Pino Palladino, producer/engineer Russell Elevado, and, of course, ?uestlove himself.
most people use midnight as a time to sleep. others are working on their 11 year followup. this of course being hour number one. #sqrntweet
The album, at one time tentatively titled James River, is reportedly set for a late 2011-early 2012 release, according to Billboard.com.
The long-awaited album has been delayed numerous times, presumably by numerous legal issues – among them arrests for drug possession and solicitation – as well as his recovery from a serious car crash. In the past decade, he has made occasional guest appearances, contributing to music by Common, Snoop Dogg, J Dilla and others.
I hope he can leave the drugs alone and get back to those Brown Sugar joints
From what Ive heard from him recently It doesnt look like we will be getting a classic joint, seems like he may be going down the contemporary route. I can only hope for a solid neo soul album.
Come on, D’Angelo. We need another classic. I bet you have it in you.
Good news but could be a major let down….I got Voodoo and ‘Leave it all Behind’ by Foreign Exchange as the best r&b albums of my lifetime
The “D” in D’Angelo’s record should be called Detox because won’t see it for a loooong time.
