Andre 3000 was originally tapped to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic last year, but it’s been silent on the news front since. But according to actress Hayley Atwell, the Outkast member is still slated to be in the flick.
Speaking with Esquire, the Captain America star explained that Three Stacks is signed on to appear as Hendrix in the independent flick. “Next up is possibly a Jimi Hendrix biopic — an independent film with Andre 3000 from OutKast playing Jimi Hendrix. But I don’t know, really. The Atwell team is like, Let’s just wait and see,” she said.
Andre previously appeared in the 2008 flick Semi-Pro, though has relatively quiet since then. He is supposedly working on a solo album to be released this year in anticipation of an Outkast LP to drop in 2012.

UPDATE: Andre 3000 is no longer slated to play Jimi Hendrix in a biopic of the legendary performer. According to The BoomBox, the Experience Hendrix estate put a block on the film moving forward.
Experience Hendrix and CEO Janie (Jimi’s sister) have “made it known many times in the past that no such film, were it to include original music or copyrights created by Jimi Hendrix, can be undertaken without its full participation.”
They did confirm that there is a documentary on the way. “With Sony Legacy, our partner, we are active in releasing documentary material starring, so to speak, Jimi Hendrix as himself and plan to continue on this path.”
